The #dhow has arrived! Part of the #2014Folklife program #Kenya: #MamboPoa, these wooden sailing vessels are common on the Kenyan island of Lamu, though are now outnumbered by modern designs. The son of the dhow maker, Ali Abdalla Skanda, has offered to restore his boat for the Smithsonian and for the Folklife Festival. We're excited to welcome Skanda and his beautiful boat to the #NationalMall! (at The National Mall)
