I watched the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice, and fell head over heels for the characters. I loved the story, the angst and heart break, and the happy ending that surmounted all the pain and misunderstanding. I didn't quite fully understand the plot until I revisited the story six years later. I read Darcy's Story, a fan's rendition of the same timeless story, but in Mr. Darcy's perspective. Then, that's when I fell in love with his tormented character. He was so in love with Elizabeth, and everything he did - whether it be his attendance at the Netherfield ball, or his "convenient" appearance at Rosings - was all for her. I then read the actual novel by Jane Austen, and stayed committed, unlike the first time when I was a freshman in high school and couldn't understand a word she said. I began to love the old English vernacular, and gave up on the Pemberley Chronicles (which continues Mr. & Mrs. Darcy's story) when I discovered it was written in modern english. I rewatched the 2005 film three times in the course of three days, and watched the movie with the director's commentary. I couldn't get enough of Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps, that is why it remains a classic to this day.
