Honestly I’m surprised I how I drew all that. Should probably redesign them someday.

I had a mini golf extravaganza with Josh - he had multiple courses marked out and the route all other planned, so all I had to do was wait for my chariot to arrive! He came over at 1, and the fun began; we visited Maidenhead Mini Golf, TopGolf’s Adventure Golf (Addlestone), and Mr Mulligan’s Pirate Golf (Woking).
Each course had something different doing for it, but each was great value! As we walked up to the Maidenhead one, we both thought it didn’t look to impressive, but we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and difficulty of the holes. There were only nine, so we went round twice for a full eighteen.
Then I had déjà vu, returning to TopGolf for the second time in three days! This course was 14 holes - an odd number to settle on - and it was a bit more polished than Maidenhead, though trickier with it. I spotted a hidden route down a little stream and foolishly alerted Josh to it before he’d teed off!
The final stop was one I’d been to before with Dad and Hannah, and perhaps past experience served me well, as I carded my best score - including back-to-back holes-in-one! However, though I came out victorious from Mr Mulligan’s, Josh had already edged the first two, with nerves of steel and unerring accuracy under pressure, despite what you see in the photos above; given his proficiency at mini golf, I took full advantage of the rare occasions he ended up in the drink!
The final course was strategically placed near-ish to Man vs Food (the one Josh had taken me to before), and we chowed down on a mahoosive burger apiece - followed by a large slice of on-the-house red velvet cake, given how long we’d had to wait.
I had even planned to get to Sam’s in the evening, which I eventually managed despite Southern Railway’s best attempts to stop me; I made it to the station with one minute to spare only to discover the train had been cancelled, and thenmissed the connecting train by one minute! I powered on, and power-walked the mile-or-so from the station to Sam’s house, shortly after 11.
His mum had just arrived back in her car, and I met her in the driveway, to which she seemed a little surprised. I said I’d hoped Sam had mentioned I was coming, but she said he never tells her anything! I was in the middle of apologising when she said ‘your bed is all ready set up’. Seems the Valdeses are a family of jokers…
Sam and I watched SWVIIITLJ* for the first time since we’d separately been to see it at the cinema, and as usual had a critique session afterwards. We agreed that it’s not a great movie (maybe not even a good one?!), but we loved it for its originality, and how thoroughly it shook the saga up, sticking two fingers up at the vanilla story of Episode VII and severely lowering the chances of a similarly by-the-numbers finale in Episode IX.
With both VII and VIII, I watched them in the cinema and felt encouraged, but upon second viewing, had my impression of the films tempered; I really hope the same thing doesn’t happen with IX, but I’m glad that it at least seems unlikely we’ll be getting a Return-of-the-Jedi-retread. Many people were furious with some of the more radical plot points in this film, but I think the final chapter will have a big influence on how VIII is regarded in future; if they can make a satisfying, imaginative ending, then I’d wager people will look back at VIII and commend it for forcing the people behind the scenes to come up with a more creative conclusion.
Nobody liked Episode V when that first came out…
*Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi. But you knew that.
