“Old prejudices turn men blind, drive them mad, devour their hearts, and turn them into Beasts.” Such a beast was La Bête du Gévaudan” (The Beast of Gévaudan) in Christophe Gans’ Historical-fiction/Action-Horror film, “Le Pacte des Loups” (Brotherhood of the Wolf, 2001). 🐺⚔️ Loosely based on the series of killings that occurred within the province of Gévadaun during the French Revolution, there lurks an unspeakable “Beast” that reigns over the people, one so few were able to escape from and live to tell the tale. To exterminate the Beast once and for all, two highly skilled “Hunters” from Paris, France 🇫🇷 are sent to conduct an investigation, locate the Beast, and slay it. Not as simple as one would assume, for the hearts of men are just as vile and terrifying as the Beast that haunts them. 😈 Brilliantly written, well directed, beautifully shot, and performed with excellence by the amazing actors/actresses in their respective roles, including Samuel Le Bihan, Jacques Perrin, Vincent Cassel, Émile Dequenne, Monica Bellucci, and the best among them, Mark Dacascos as Mani, sole survivor of his tribe and Knight Grégoire de Fronsac’s dearest friend/brother. 😍❤️ The Beast itself is but a representation of the corruption within the souls of men, since they are capable of great evil, whether they care to admit it or not. How are they so different from the creature they hunt, and just who is the real beast?
