19th Century Mandau Sword

The mandau is the traditional weapon of the Dayak of Kalimantan, Indonesia. Primarily associated with the Head Hunting tradition of the Dyaks it also used as a general-purpose jungle knife.

This example has a carved bone hilt, that is in good condition apart from a small crack that can be seen in the photos.

The Scabbard is traditionally made out of sacred wood and decorated, and is in excellent condition.

The blade is 46cm long with an overall length of 60cm. The thick spine in minimally decorated and the edge retains its original sharpness.

Overall this is an interesting blade is excellent condition apart form a few small blemishes.
