The way it's going right now it doesn't appear to actually be a romance (yet at least) (the monster dude actually misunderstood what "bride" was) and more of a found family deal with a REALLY weird start (i wonder if it took the mangaka a while to figure out what she wanted to do with the story), otherwise id've been out too. For now, it's interesting enough and the world is fascinating enough I'm willing to be down for the ride.
but I really get why people were turned off by the beginning and no one should have to sit through it if they don't want to. I'dve been out myself if i hadn't read other people's thoughts on it ahead of time and been intrigued, plus seen the OVA trilogy before anything else.
That’s fair, I feel that even if it stays platonic, the dynamic still makes me uncomfortable.
Yeah, as ladyloveandjustice said, it’s not really a romantic relationship, it’s a lot more about finding family. And I feel like it’s important to note that the protagonist is unhealthily dependent on the guy because of her fear of abandonment and that this is pointed out by several characters. I can totally respect this show not being for everyone though.
To be completely honest, Usagi Drop is the reason I have trust issues when it comes to this kind of dynamics.
