when the your sweetie potato doesn't pick up the phone
and will never answer
Anthy smells like roses. She smells like fresh pine sap from Saionji's bonsai at home. She smells like Utena's mother's pillows. She smells like Kozue's favorite shampoo (honey-scented). She smells like Shiori's nail polish. She smells like that expensive perfume Nanami has but won't ever wear. She smells like fresh, clean linens, laying still and shroudlike in the dreams where Touga is safe.
Anthy smells like roses, sweeter and gentler than Akio's own rose scent, drifting out of reach on a cool breeze. She smells like Miki's toothpaste. She smells like Juri's sweat. She smells like the less expensive perfume Nanami actually wears, which is scented like birthday cake and rainbow sprinkles. She smells like Saionji's aftershave mingled with the shampoo Wakaba couldn't afford. She smells like Touga in the rain. Mamiya smells like Mamiya (sugar roses, soap, fever-sweat), of course, until she doesn't.
Anthy smells like Juri, exactly like Juri, without a trace of Shiori. She smells of sweet, musty straw. She smells like roses and sickness and fear, swelling up in the remnants of the stale church air. She smells like sex and saliva and blood. She smells like metal on metal, infinitely, eternally. She smells like the only time you've ever been happy.
Anthy smells like... herself.

IVOTD no. 1: Anthy Himemiya from Revolutionary Girl Utena
She is canonically a victim of brother/sister incest and CSA. She also suffers from hyper-sexuality, CPTSD (both canon), and DPDR (interpretation) as a result of abuse.

The Limbo of the Infants in RGU and Akio Ohtori as God
“There are but four ways to die, a sardonic spirit might have said to me There is dying that occurs relatively suddenly There is dying that occurs relatively gradually There is dying that occurs relatively painlessly There is the death that is full of pain Thus by various means they are combined The sudden and the gradual The painless and the painful To yield but four ways to die And there are no others " - Thomas Ligotti, I Have A Special Plan For This World
Nothing can describe so perfectly the endless and ongoing death Anthy and Mikage undergo. Trapped in time their death is sudden and gradual, painless and painful. They are literally in limbo, between time, space (Anthy being both ever present and ever absent from Ohtori, having almost become one with the space itself; Nemuro Memorial Hall being physically absent but present for a brief moment in the collective psyche of Ohtori Academy), but most importantly life and death.
Mikage and Anthy die in the Limbo of the Infants: in Catholicism, the final resting place for unbaptised children, who cannot go to Hell as they have committed no sin but the sin of their ungodly upbringing; and yet as a result of this upbringing they cannot reach salvation, Heaven.
A tragedy, for children that God cannot love, as they are not His lambs. A tragedy, that God’s will brought these children death, and his benign power gave them in return eternal stagnation.
It is simply the way the world works; God cannot save everyone, God in his unending omnipotence cannot change everything.
The Limbo of the Infants is the place in Akio Ohtori’s power where death and innocence, the painful and the painless, can be measured to coexist.
