Freshly graduated, Mandy was in a whirl at her party. Floating from one guest to the next, she was on a high. Champagne glass in hand, she stopped when she spotted her brother with a knot of his friends. Alex. Alex was here and she got that same little flutter she’d gotten since she’d first met him when she was, what? Thirteen? He had only gotten better with age, and Mandy had to stop at a friend, one of her fellow grads, and make sure everything was perfect before she could make her way over.
Mandy leaned up to press a kiss to her brother’s cheek, Jason slung his arm around her and snagged her glass for a drink. She allowed it, too happy and buzzed to yank it back. “Hello, big brother,” she murmured, and turned, smile radiant, to Alex. “Hi, Alex. Didn’t know you were crashing my party,” she teased.
