[some Monster manga spoilers here]
Just ranting about the cocoa thing but if you think about it it’s terrifying how what they were doing to the children was damaging to the point where they had to rely on other kids to remember their own identity for him, and even Johan (lil sociopath that he already was somewhat by then) was afraid of forgetting Anna who he himself calls his other half, and it’s especially devastating when you see the consequences in Grimmer who is robbed of even his ability to grief and cope with his emotions healthily (to the point where he is so emotionally detached that he has a kind of split personality for his rage and needs to consciously figure out what expressions he should make in different situations)
But on the other hand while it’s sad for the boy who loved hot cocoa and drawing pictures and loved bugs but didn’t want to hurt them and wanted to be an entomologist it’s also extremely annoying to find out its goddamn Roberto- like urasawa makes us so sympathetic and sad for this kid and it’s fuCkiNg rObeRtO??!? (does make you wonder how he turned out like that though, another living example of the horrors of Kinderheim 511)
