hey y’all! so, as per the target audience of one disclaimer (it’s not a disclaimer. i’m just floating around in the abyss too shy to interact), i decided i should start interacting more with the writeblr community and making an effort to become more of a member. this includes starting my own themed week, which i’m going to list now!

please note, these were Not my ideas. with the blessing of some of these wonderful people, i’m going to partake in some of these events :) i hope you’ll all enjoy and please be sure to pop me a message regarding anything and everything, i’m around <3

starting with monday: meet and greet monday by @manitamuerte 

- this revolves around a writer’s OCs and who they are as people in your wips! it can be questions regarding their childhood, backstory, random facts or thoughts, and i’ll post an open ask or two in the next few weeks (on monday hehe). i’ll also be sure to send some writeblrs these as well. (shout-out to @nana-writes for introducing me to this)

tuesday: truth-be-told tuesday by @hannahs-creations

- this revolves around the behind-the-scenes of a writer’s novels or wips! anything from concepts to the meaning behind a character names or even some juicy, juicy backstory (!!) as for most of these days, i’ll have some open asks n interactions x

wednesday: worldbuilding wednesday by @incandescent-creativity

- as the name suggests, this is some worldbuildin’ schtuff! questions about a writer’s world, new features or languages, creatures n creepies, whatever suits your fancy! i have a few fantasy pieces in the works, but there are some liberties i’ve taken for my earth-based worlds, too! feel free to send me an ask y’all <3

thursday: nothing, as of today! i haven’t found something that piques my interest here yet.

- made by the wonderful abalonetea, i have seen this floating about for ages and may have partaken without realising it! i think it’s so important to create a culture of care and constructive criticism within a community like writeblr, so! i’ve decided to recommend and rant about the wonderful members of this community and my new thoughts as i develop through this wonderful place hehe. (aka the love/ rant day)

- this is when i’ll be recommending all of my favourite fanfics and ranting about the wonderful people on archive of our own or wattpad or any other platforms i find! i’m super excited, since this is where i first started finding my love for writing so i hope i can give back just a little :)

Okay so I’m going to preface this with some context. In my WIP, Beth mentions The Dean Incident. It’s not explained at all but the girls make reference to it more than once, usually accompanied by cringing and an agreement to stop talking. Anyway, here’s how Beth tells the story.

Oh, God, do I ever.

Right, so way back when I was still in denial and trying to get over Jaimie, I tried dating. Online. This was a mistake.

I swiped right on this guy called Dean. He seemed nice; he had a puppy in his photo and everything. We chatted back and forth for a bit, flirted a lot, met up for a drink at this trendy bar he picked out. It went well, and then I made the dumbest decision I have ever made in my life.

I went back to his place.

So we have a couple glasses of wine, we’re chatting, and then we start making out. Clothes start coming off.

He’s wearing Spongebob boxers. Which like, okay, I can’t judge, I have Wonder Woman undies. He cracks a joke, I laugh awkwardly, figure we’re moving on.

Oh no. The Spongebob jokes keep coming.

To try and nip that in the bud, I suggest we go to the bedroom.

Where he has Spongebob bedsheets.

He makes a comment about this stuffed Patrick...thing—honestly, I don’t remember what he said, I try not to think about it—and I excuse myself to the bathroom. At this point, I know I am not having sex with this man and I need to get the hell out, but I’m also far too nice to just say that.

So I manage to grab my phone from where it ended up on the hallway table and I call Nat from the bathroom, because I need saving big time. She comes up with a plan which, frankly, could have been a lot simpler but I should never trust my friends to take the path of least resistance, apparently.

Luckily, the girls are in the area for drinks, and Nat knows a guy. 

Nat always knows a guy. 

Her brilliant, cocktail fuelled plan is that she shows up and knocks on his door, pretending to be the pizza delivery, while I climb out the bathroom window. 

Bear in mind, I am down to my underwear and my clothes are in the other room. I am also not a small woman. 

But Nat will not be deterred and also, none of us are sober so nobody is sensible enough to say this is a terrible idea. 

So I end up shimmying down the drainpipe while Nat distracts him, land barefoot in the front garden of his house share to be greeted with Molly who wraps me up in her trenchcoat because Molly is a bonafide angel, and am promptly bundled into the cab to be met with Katja, who’s basically pissing herself laughing over the whole thing. 

But wait. It gets better. 

Though I escaped with my phone, I left without my dignity or my purse. Or shoes, but mostly I’m mad about my purse. Because I kept business cards in my purse, so now Dean knew where I worked. 

And oh boy, did he use that information and keep showing up until someone filled Jaimie in. There’s nothing like being faced with a pissed off 6′2″ Scottish boxer to make a guy run, let me tell you. 

I have never lived this down and they will probably tell this story at my funeral if Katja has her way. I’m just glad my mother never found out. 

And that is the story of why Bethany deleted Tinder off her phone.

Happy WBW! What is a well known myth or legend in your setting? Is it only spread among one culture/species etc. -- Or is there a version of it that exists everywhere? Is there any truth to it? // tag @the-ravens-requiem //

Oh @the-ravens-requiem did you ask the right question!

So Asylum was heavily inspired by Hawksong, and that inspiration remains in the form of an oral tradition/legend/musical, The Love That Broke The War.

In modern times, it’s basically a musical like West Side Story. It’s your classic Romeo and Juliet, warring families tragic ending, except its serpent shapeshifters vs avians, just like Hawksong. the l’rei, historians and storytellers of the serpents, have passed this legend down from the time of the War itself.

The story its inspired from is actually stories, several different factual stories that were woven into one over time. These are my avian/serpent shipfics, and I adore them more than I can say.

So The Love That Broke The War is both true and not true, and its a nod to my favorite book of all time :)

8. Is what you like to write the same as what you like to read? 

In the sense that writers write for the genres and tropes we find most appealing. Everything I write is sci-fi or fantasy (or the subgenres cyberpunk and steampunk), which is what I’m most drawn to for recreational reading.

It may be more accurate to say that what I write is what I would like to read, because I write to fill a niche that doesn’t yet have anything in it (or if it does, it doesn’t quite hit all the marks of what I’m looking for).

there are soooooo many things i’d love to learn about, but if we’re going to keep it to just one for the moment i’m going to have to go with ASL! i’m trying my best to learn it slowly but surely, but i get far too easily distracted and i’m a big old mess. i just think it’s important to be able to communicate with people!

Essentially, the Kiraly code is family first. This generally means “immediate family,” though if necessary it can be expanded to “our entire neighborhood” or, under some circumstances, “our family tree going all the way back to Attila the Hun.”

(Pa’s always claimed we’re distantly descended from Attila the Hun, and though it may sound far-fetched, I suppose there’s no way to prove we’re not)

It’s a fairly reasonable code to live by, isn’t it? I mean, I really owe my family everything. If Ma hadn’t met that music professor at the bakery and bullied him into letting me audition for him I never would have been able to study at the Academy. And with Pa’s health not being great, I’ve got a duty to support him and the girls.

Is there anything that could make me break the code? Well...does falling in love with the countess I’m supposed to be tutoring, secretly dating her, getting found out, and losing my job as a result count as breaking the code?

If not, then no.

Hi! Okay so, there was this one time. A friend was celebrating her bachelorette party! And we were having a good time, but uh. They were serving this new cocktail. And apparently if you mix chocolate in alcohol the Martian-gene-that-keeps-you-sober just nopes out of the room.

I mean, okay. I guess it doesn’t happen for everyone? But I hold my alcohol better than most other people I know. Anyway. Yeah. I had just come from a bad breakup? And apparently weddings aren’t the best idea if you’ve just gotten out of a relationship? I really wanted to be happy for her! But you know, someone was there, and they had a camera, and they thought it would be funny to send it to the tabloids, and yeah! You’ve probably seen it. But whatever. I don’t care. At all. No sir.

Anyway. Watch out for chocolate in your drink? I guess?

Rory: Not really. I never had anyone I really had to worry about to betrayed on me. It may sound lonely, but it is better. But if we include here being abandoned in childhood and having problems with it all your life and feeling deprived of a normal and somewhat betrayed life ... maybe. And we deal with it like everyone else, playing the violin to sleep.

Perth: I had a friend once. Finally, I could feel that someone did not judge me by the things of the past that I ... prefer not to comment. That was when I found out that this person was saying horrible things about me behind my back. It wasn't fun at all. I didn't want friends for a while, or to see people. I'm glad I met someone who is making me change my mind. In the best way possible.

Elight: I am a diplomat who deals with relations between kingdoms at the age of 12. Knowing that someone changed arcordos or spoke ill of me is my daily life. It's a little strange and makes you a little paranoid, but you get over it. I prefer to think of who I can trust.
