ok so lets say we take the chapter 4 prophecy at face value. susie is the girl from the prophecy and something truly terrible is going to happen to her - be it betrayal, injury or god forbid death
can you IMAGINE being ralsei in this situation? you are a being cursed with knowledge of the future. before this girl even steps into the darkworld you KNOW that she is destined to suffer. you watch as this deeply troubled girl grows and learns kindness. you watch as she becomes one of the kindest and bravest people you know. she cares for you, and you care for her. she becomes one of your best friends. she looks after you in her own special way and changes the world around her. and this whole time you know she is destined to suffer greatly. you laugh together, you smile together, and in the end she is going to suffer.
you thought that maybe if you dont say anything you can stay friends until the end, maybe if you dont say anything the prophecy will change, maybe if you dont say anything it will hurt less.
but it doesnt.
and now she knows. she knows. and she should hate you. hate the world. and instead she laughs. she laughs and comforts YOU instead. walks away with hope still crossed on her heart. and she is still doomed and there is nothing you can do because the prophecy remains unchanged. there is no answer, there is no solution. how do you carry this guilt? how do you live, knowing won't be able to? how do you look her in the eyes again and smile knowing that she is your friend and she will suffer for it. what can you do other than smile and try to believe the words she says? that is your only escape. that is the only thing you have left.
