When Cultural Exchange Turns Into Music
Music is communication. And sometimes it´s a petrification of friendships. One year after the death metal band Overthrust toured in Europe with the support of Kampnagel Theater Hamburg, the initiator Marcel Bisevic as well as the musicians Manuel Schaub from the black metal band Ultha and Sascha Brosamer visited Southern Africa and the band in Botswana. The result is a limited split 7“ that was just released on the label Ecocentric Records: Botswana's renowned deathmetal-outfit Overthrust are providing two raw songs of their early record.
Katutura is the sonic manifestation of a journey through Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. When Sascha Brosamer and Manuel Schaub met Namibian punk artist and queer activist Vilho Nuumbala, they had a recording session which led to the soundcollage on the flipside of this record. This single is an attempt to forge this cultural exchange into music.
