Powerwolf in Hamburg 4.10.24
Absolutely insane kickoff for the tour, the guys outdid themselves once again! Gorgeous, dynamic stage design, the new costumes look amazing. I've heard a lot of people not being as hot on the new album but even the songs I don't like as much (We don't wanna be no saints....) are absolute bangers live. The crowd was also very good and despite arriving fairly late because of work I ended up in like 4th row behind the fanclub who came in costume. (I do have a costume that I will wear to the next show but I got my ticket literally the day before the show from a private reseller and it needs to be reworked anyway.)
The setlist was a good mix of old and new stuff. Bless em With the Blade is a fantastic opener even though I wasn't convinced when I heard it on the album at first. My favorite from the new album of course is 1589.... They burned Falk at the stake. It did things to me.
I did miss My will be done, it's just such a good song. And where the wild wolves have gone, but Alive or Undead is still an insanely emotional experience to hear live. Attila has such a ballad voice it's unreal.
Attila was once again in great shape. He's one of the few power metal vocalists that actually sings most songs as he does on tape, i.e. he does all the hard parts too. Even Joachim Cans, who I consider a very good live singer, tends to leave out some of the trickiest high notes on occasion. (Attila did fuck up a single one of said high notes, but well, that's why it's live. We love him anyway.)
Wind Rose and Hammerfall were both bangers but I didn't take many pictures. Francesco of Wind Rose was kind of quiet in the beginning, but they improved the mix over time. I thought the set was kind of short tbh, which was sad because they're very fun live and it was the release day for their new album Trollslayer. Overall an incredible show, super fun, 10/10 as usual.
