Katseye Masterlist
The silence in the apartment had a different weight now. Before the tour, the space was filled with the cozy chaos of three intertwined lives: a lost sock of Sophia's, Manon's distinctive perfume lingering on the sofa, the sound of your own voice echoing through the halls during your livestreams. Now, it was just silence. A silence that ached.
You had ended the stream with a tired smile for your subscribers, promising to be back the next day. The performative energy you maintained during the broadcasts vanished the moment the camera turned off, leaving only the longing, a physical and oppressive feeling that settled in your chest. It had been two weeks since Sophia, Manon, and the other girls of Katseye had taken off, embarking on a journey across Europe. Two hearts of your world, now thousands of kilometers away.
Your phone vibrated at the exact moment you curled up on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket that still smelled faintly of them. It was a video call request. A smile, genuine this time, spread across your face. It was your ritual. Your lifeline.
When you accepted, the screen split in two. On one side, Sophia, with her hair down, lying on the hotel bed with an expression of tiredness mixed with happiness. Beside her, Manon, her curls damp from a recent shower, leaning against the headboard next to Sophia, her eyes shining with a familiar tenderness.
"Mahal." Sophia's voice came out a bit hoarse, but laden with affection. "How was the live today?"
"Full of Eyekons asking about you," you replied, your voice softer than usual. "I have a slight impression my subscribers are Katseye fans now. And the other half are Eyekons joining in the hope of seeing you two appear in the background."
Manon laughed, with that laugh that warmed your heart.
"They'll have to settle for seeing us through here for a while. We missed you so, so much."
"You have no idea," you sighed, adjusting the phone to get more comfortable. "The apartment is too big for me and Spoon. And too quiet."
Sophia bit her lower lip, her gaze turning more serious.
"For us too, Mahal. Sharing a room with Manon is great, but… it's not the same. We miss you all the time. At dinner, during the silly laughs, in the random hugs."
That's how it worked. The longing wasn't a one-sided feeling, a burden for you to carry alone. It was a taut rope, with equal tension from both ends. A romance where distance was unwanted, but which, somehow, reinforced its intensity.
"Tell me everything," you asked, sinking into the sofa. "How was the show in Berlin? Did Manon manage to teach you anything?"
The next few minutes were filled with a whirlwind of stories. Manon, with her contagious energy, described the energy of the audience, the screams, the feeling of seeing thousands of lights flashing to the rhythm of the music. Sophia, with her more observant narrative, told you about some places in the city she had visited with Daniela and Yoonchae, mentioning that Megan, Lara, and Manon had ended up buying hundreds of chocolates and that the Swiss one had saved more than half for you to try.
You listened, absorbing every word, every detail. It was your way of being there, of participating in that parallel reality they were living. Seeing their animated faces, even with the mark of tiredness under their eyes, was a balm.
Suddenly, Sophia grew quiet, looking intently at the screen.
"You know what's worse?" she whispered. "It's lying here in bed and not feeling you. It's knowing Manon is just an arm's length away, but how much we miss you to complete us."
Manon nodded, her face softening into an expression of sweet melancholy.
"It's true. Our nighttime conversations aren't the same without your random comments and your laugh."
Emotion tightened your throat.
"It feels like I left half of myself with you," you confessed, your voice choked. "I'm immensely proud to see you shining, living this dream. But damn, it really hurts."
"It hurts for us too, mon coeur," Manon replied, using the French term of endearment that always made your heart melt. "But it's like this, isn't it? We learn. We support each other from a distance until we can be together again."
"And until then," Sophia interjected, her smile returning, more tender now. "We have this. Our refuge. It's our comfort, Mahal. Our way of crossing the ocean and being together, even if it's just for an hour."
They fell silent for a moment, a silence different from the one in the apartment before. This silence was comfortable, full of understanding and love transmitted through the screen.
Now comfortable in bed, with Spoon sleeping on Sophia's pillow, you relaxed.
"Keep talking," you asked softly. "Just hearing your voices is enough for me to be able to sleep tonight."
And so they did. They talked about plans for when they returned, about what they would do on the first day all together, about everything and nothing, until your eyelids began to grow heavy. The distance was still there, physical and real. But in that moment, under the same night sky, in a hotel room and a silent apartment, they had found a way to shorten it.
