Back on Land
I saw you shining above the water
You were a beacon in the storm
I was drowning in my sorrow
My greatest fears had taken form
The salt had burned by eyes and nose
But slowly I began to swim
You learn such things when no one helps you
And so from there I grew my fins
But I’m not born for the cold sea,
For on the land’s where I belong
I thought to cope was to be living
Oh, never have I been so wrong
Step by step you led the way
Until I once more walked again
The air I breathed never tasted so sweet
Then when I was with you, my dearest friend.
You’ll never realize just what you did;
How you had saved me from myself
But I think that if my thanks were coins,
Then you would possess all of my wealth.
