The flavor of this recipe for grilled tofu is enhanced by a straightforward marinade made with soy sauce, maple syrup, and sesame oil. Ideal as a protein-rich side dish for any meal or as a vegetarian barbecue accompaniment.
Ingredients: 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained. 1/4 cup soy sauce. 2 tablespoons maple syrup. 1 tablespoon rice vinegar. 1 tablespoon sesame oil. 1 clove garlic, minced. 1 teaspoon grated ginger. 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes. Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish.
Instructions: Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Cut pressed tofu into slices or cubes, depending on preference. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes to make the marinade. Place tofu in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour marinade over the tofu, making sure it's evenly coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator. Once marinated, remove tofu from marinade and place on the preheated grill. Grill for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until grill marks form and tofu is heated through. Remove tofu from grill and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot and enjoy!
