This was stupid. He was stupid. She had moved on, she had laid him to rest... wouldn’t it be better to leave her with untainted memories? Instead of stress. Confusion. Shock. Righteous anger. This was selfish. He was selfish. The moment he realized the house was being lived in, that Mar was in Blackrock, Dante should have high-tailed it right back out of town. Leave her to her live. Maybe go South this time, connect with his roots. Settle somewhere along the coast, experience a temperate Winter.
Right. Why wasn’t he doing that?
“...qué chingados...”
What was he even supposed to tell her? The truth? The whole truth? How was he supposed to prove it, not seem insane? Pour a bucket of ice water on his head? Even if she believed him... that didn’t make things ok. They wouldn’t fall back into marital bliss... they couldn’t, and he didn’t expect them to. He wanted her to be happy, and if she had moved on, or simply... didn’t want to deal with him and all the baggage?
The considerate thing to do would be to leave town. To not do this.
What if she’d end up wishing he was dead? What then?
