Debut: Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Yeah, Sticker Star... I know... but look! Something good and fun that came out of it!
“Mariachi Guys” is actually not an official term for them, but weirdly, there’s not an official term for the entire group! I think that one works just fine, and it turns out the wiki does too. The individual names are Sombrero Guy, Maraca Guy, and Accordion Guy. I guess “Guitar Guy” wasn’t interesting enough? Or maybe he was the first one and therefore the leader? Who knows? Not me!
These Guys basically fulfill the role of a bard for the enemy side! At least, I think so. I’ve never exactly played any, like... “real” RPGs. But if you enter a battle while a Mariachi Guy is in the area, he’ll hop into frame at the last moment and join in on the fun! Or maybe I should put “fun” in quotation marks, since this is Sticker Star’s battle system we’re talking about here...
But anyway! These Guys play their instruments, causing beneficial effects to other enemies, like healing some HP or increasing a stat. When they’re the only enemy left, they’ll flee the battle. Look at that! They just want to play nice music to help their friends!
Rarely, you’ll encounter all three together! Just playing their music in the overworld. And you can attack them and defeat them all... but that gives you nothing and there is no reason to! They may occasionally throw their hats all at once as an attack, but hey, you’re the one who decided to pick a fight with the whole band!
And lastly, in the overworld, they’ll play their instrument along with the music! Let’s have a listen! If you like what you hear, support them on SoundCloud!
