Time is Illmatic was incredibly interesting and well-made. I really enjoyed the style of the film, which made a lot of use of archival footage, old photographs, and a lot of fast cuts, even when the people the producers were interviewing were talking. It created a really vibrant, alive feeling that matched the album and the time period and place it was produced in very well. Nas' story was very inspiring as well, and it was very interesting to learn more about him, his background, and his family. The use of education as a framing device, starting the documentary with Nas talking about how he dropped out young to getting a position at Harvard, was very good and also inspiring.
I love this shot and the interaction it is a part of. It shows who Ushio and Noriko are very quickly, their personalities and quirks, and the way their relationship works. And I love the duck slippers!
This shot after they fail to sell one of Ushio's works is so interesting. It's a beautifully composed wide shot, but it feels so intimate, especially after the disappointment of the previous scene. It feels tense as a result, while still comforting. It demonstrates the complexity of their relationship well.
The scene on the balcony after their son is introduced and shown drunk is so beautiful and heartbreaking. The shot alone would have demonstrated what they were feeling.
I love the graininess of these scenes. They're so beautiful and really show that this couple is almost out of time, in that they seem to still belong to a world that isn't the current one.
This documentary was very meaningful and beautiful to watch. Noriko and Ushio are both fascinating people and I loved watching them both interact and grow.
Here's my video! I tried to do something more documentary-style, like the example video, so I did it about my partner and I driving delivery. Thank you for watching!
Hi everyone! I didn't have access to the camera I normally use this week and was unable to grab one from the school, so I ended up using my phone. I tried to create a montage and to cut back and forth from what my friends were looking at at the Met. Thank you for watching!
I like this wide shot because of what it does to establish the scene as well as the closeness of the two characters, by placing them close together in a wide frame.
This shot pans up to show this neighborhood and is very effective in demonstrating the look and feel of this movie's setting.
This action shot is bright and filled with energy, just like the scene it is from.
This show is wide and shows the clandestine nature of the party Cleo is going to, and sets the mood for the scene.
