Fanyüvő the Son of The White Mare

The Son of The White Mare is a 1981 Hungarian animated surrealist fantasy directed by Marcell Jankovics. The story's main character is Fehérlófia, who is born of the White Mare and is thus imbued with fanstical powers. The tale is based on the narrative poetry of László Arany as well as ancient Hunnic, Avaric and Hungarian folklore.

Fehérlófia set out to slay the dragon lords who have brought about the end of the reign of the Forefather and taken over the world. He seeks out the Világfa or World Tree and underneath finds passage to the underworld. Fehérlófia descends into this neitherworld armed with a mighty sword forged from the beard of a gnome. He is ultimately able to slay the dragons and saves three princesses.

The power of the Forefather is returned to the land. Fehérlófia marries one of the princesses and his brothers marry the other two. Peace and harmony is returned to the world and they all live happily into old age.
