Journalist, editor and publisher John Marcham dies at 87

John Marcham ’50, a journalist and longtime editor of the Cornell Alumni News, died Dec. 4 at age 87.

Marcham, of Ithaca, was editor of the Cornell Alumni News (now called Cornell Alumni Magazine) from 1961-91, except for 1964-67, when he served as Cornell’s director of university relations. He majored in economics.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane Haskins Marcham ’51. Marcham was the son of Fred Marcham, Ph.D. ’26, a well-known Cornell professor of English who taught for nearly seven decades.

BA pilot accused of child sex offences ‘used his job to meet under-age boys around world,’ court told

A British Airways pilot used his job flying passengers around the world to meet under-age boys and lavish them with money and gifts, a court was told.

Bartle Frere is accused of “arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence” against boys in India, as well as abusing two boys in the UK.

This can go on the list of "things that are only really significant to me," but in the Summer of 2011 I spent a whole day in the rain measuring and recording this trench, producing a smudged and torn drawing on thick drafting paper.

AND NOW LOOK HOW PRETTY IT IS!

Someone somewhere has turned it into this! Feeling superproud here. I also spent a long time digging at the lower right ditch end, so when that pops up in the discussion I get excited.

Warning: archeology ahead.

Digging was awesome, if messy. I was turfing up iron age stuff, circa 800-44 BC, and despite the rain it went pretty well. Decent finds include:

Cow knee

Iron/copper slag, as well as a tiny piece of copper

Cow femur

flint blade (knife?)

a metric fuckton of pot shards

Though I'm still annoyed I didn't find any corpses.

In the pit next to mine somebody found a skeleton, with the skull split almost exactly in half. She seems to have been dumped in pretty unceremoniously, so it looks like some kind of execution, maybe? Either way, pretty cool stuff.

Oh, and did I mention I was washing bones in Radiohead's old recording studio?
