It is not the first time that Marcouch has spoken out strongly against Salafism. After reporting from News hour and NRC about salafist teaching material at Islamic primary schools, he spoke of “the porch of the violent jihad”. Marcouch wil maatregelen tegen moslims die in buitenland studeren

PvdA-Kamerlid Ahmed Marcouch wil dat er maatregelen worden genomen om te voorkomen dat Nederlandse moslims naar het buitenland reizen om er theologie te studeren. Dat heeft hij gezegd in Nieuwsuur naar aanleiding van de dood van een Amsterdammer van Marokkaanse komaf in Jemen. Volgens Marcouch worden de studenten mogelijk 'gebrainwasht'. "Je weet niet hoe iemand terugkomt", aldus de PvdA'er. Marcouch  is van mening dat er meer aandacht moet komen om te voorkomen dat jongeren ervoor kiezen om theologie buiten Nederland te studeren.
