20 years ago today Peyton Manning and Tim Couch faced off in one of the best quarterback duels in SEC if not NCAA history as Tennessee beat Kentucky 59-31.
The pair combined for 999 yards passing and 7 touchdown passes as Manning completed 25/35 with 5 TD passes.
Manning threw TD passes to Marcus Nash of 59, 66 and 31 yards to Marcus Nash and 17 yards to Andy McCullough. RB Jamal Lewis caught one for 50 yards and added 3 more touchdowns on the ground.
Manning was 11/11 for 267 yards in the 2nd half as UT pulled away from UK.
RIP to the great John Ward
Not that it was planned out this way, but, Tennessee should rename this play Bronco. It had a former Bronco Trey Teague snapping the ball, a former Bronco Peyton Manning throwing the ball and a former Bronco Marcus Nash catching the ball. Oh and former Bronco Champ Bailey was likely on the field trying to stop it.
