It was peaceful being in the Forbidden Forest. A break from all of the commotion happening inside the school and the constant crying echoing throughout all of the corridors. A chance to clear his mind so he wouldn’t lose his temper towards any of the people who were grieving; granted, they would deserve when the library was nothing but sniffling and blowing of noses in between the quill scratching against parchment and turning of pages. The library was not the place for their mourning, especially when the people who did not know the Potter were trying to get work done. It was impossible to not become irritated when the usual silence was broken by people who should obviously not be in such a public area.
Although no students were allowed in the forest, Severus couldn’t help but break this rule. Of course, he shouldn’t have been as surprised as he was to see a professor, the Care of Magical Creatures professor he deduced as no other teacher would be out here in the biting cold making sure the thestrals were taken care of. The thestrals really gave it away, though. Knowing that he hadn’t been quiet while strolling, he had a feeling that the professor had heard him coming. It was too late to turn around as his presence was most likely already known. He should have been more careful and not have been as lost in his head as he had been while walking through. Not commenting on how he was not supposed to be out here (he figured the young professor would say something eventually), he spoke first, “Thestrals. Fascinating creatures. A pity the way people are able to see them, though.”
