"Milo and the Magical Stones" is one of our new favorites. 🐭It's another wonderful book by #marcuspfister (author & illustrator of "The Rainbow Fish".) It teaches about making choices and consequences. I love that it has two endings, halfway through the story the book splits in two sections and you get to choose the happy ending or the sad ending. This is a great book to start a conversation about taking care of our environment. 🌎 Lennon loves the shiny stones and loves the story as much as I do! 💛 We made our own magical stone yesterday with glue and gold glitter. Although the book inspired us to keep making more stone art! ✨
Reflection 1
One of my fondest memories of being read to as a child would be my Prep teacher reading the picture storybook ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister. It is still my favorite picture storybook to this day, and I was lucky enough to read it on my most recent placement to the Preps as well! They loved listening to the story and especially loved the illustrations with the beautiful sparkly scales. I also have many memories of my Mother reading to my Brother and I at home before bedtime. My favorite book that she used to read to us was ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ by Enid Blyton. This would definitely be a story that I would love to read to my class in the future!
The Rainbow Fish raises questions about selfishness and the importance of sharing. In the book, Pfister portrays Rainbow Fish as a vain character due to his shining scales. He is described as the “most beautiful fish in the sea.” When a blue fish asks for one of his scales Rainbow Fish refuses, and this causes all the other fish to leave him all alone. This shows the conceitedness that the Rainbow Fish has. However, after everyone leaves, Rainbow Fish wonders, “What good were the dazzling, shimmering scales with no one to admire them?
