Alyanna!! My darlings!! There is technically an AU where they’re married, my sedoretu AU, but that exists mostly in my head.

I can see an AU where Ned doesn’t ask for Aly’s hand before Harrenhal, and she and Lyanna hook up there. In my work, Lyanna at least leaves with Rhaegar willingly, but if she’s romantically involved with Aly, I don’t think that would happen (so no Jon). And that means no rebellion, either. So Brandon and Catelyn are Lord and Lady of Winterfell and Robert is Lord of Storm’s End.

My favorite way for this to end is Ned and Aly still get married, and move to Storm’s End. Everyone knows that they’re sleeping with Robert and Lyanna, but since no bastards can come of it, and Lyanna and Robert do have a couple of children, no one cares.

If you want more angsty, though, there’s also the possibility that Rhaegar straight up kidnaps Lyanna. In this case, I feel like Aly would have been with her when she’s taken, since she’s not going to meet Rhaegar by choice, and thus Aly would also be kidnapped. I think as soon as Rhaegar leaves the Tower of Joy, Aly makes a plan to escape; she’s friends with Ashara and Allyria, after all, so if they can get out, she and Lyanna can go to Starfall. Now, this raises the question of Jon. Does Ashara claim him, letting everyone think she slept with one of the Starks? Maybe. But the more likely option is that Aly claims him, saying he’s Ned’s (because to say he’s Brandon’s means she slept with her cousin’s betrothed and that’s pretty bad). I like the idea here of Alyssandra being kidnapped with Lyanna being enough to get Hoster’s support, so the Nedcat wedding hasn’t happened yet, and once again we do get Nedaly due to Jon. (Ned goes along with the lie to keep Lyanna safe.) Robert still marries Cersei because politics, Catelyn marries Stannis also because politics, and Lyanna goes home with Aly and eventually marries some Northern lord so Ned doesn’t look too hard at her relationship with his wife.

ALY AND STANNIS. Oh lord, that would actually kinda be amazing. Robert would be SEETHING, because how did his ROCK brother get the SLUTTIEST LADY IN WESTEROS??? How did Mister Iron Stag end up with a fucking freak?? One who seems actually pretty happy with him???

This is how we get Aly’s Long List of Girlfriends because she absolutely is bedding every woman she can! Stannis isn’t about to share her with another man, but she can have as much lesbian sex as she wants. (Yes, this is not a particularly enlightened stance. But it’s Westeros.) Overall I think they’d be happy together, because they respect each other and would mostly just stay out of each other’s way. There wouldn’t be the love that Catnis or Nedaly have, but there would be deep affection between them.

Ned and Eleyna is interesting to me. In my mind there’s a very fun Brandon Lives AU where Alyssandra is married to Jaime and Eleyna is older and married to Ned and they all spend a lot of time together! Ned and Eleyna probably would have been arranged by Tywin and Rickard when they’re both also arranging marriages with Riverrun, but I feel like neither of them would be particularly bothered by it? I like the idea of Eleyna and Jaime being sent together to Riverrun to meet the Tullys and Starks, and all three couples hanging out together under the watchful eyes of Ser Kermit and Ser Prestan.

I think Ned would be very soft with Eleyna, trying to make himself as much of a lap dog as possible. And he’s already known to be quite honorable, so I can see her opening up with him fairly quickly. ALSO. Aly and Brandon separately giving Eleyna and Ned sex advice ahead of their wedding? Something about that is very cute and funny to me.

There is another Ned and Eleyna scenario I thought of, but much sadder. Say Eleyna’s six years older than Robb, making her 21 when the royal family visits Winterfell, a year after Lynora’s birth, and Alyssandra had died giving birth to her. Robert and Cersei then push Eleyna onto Ned as a second wife. Here, I think Ned would recognize that Lynora and Rickon at least would really benefit from a mother figure, and he would very respectfully ask Eleyna how she felt about the situation, telling her that he’s not sure he can love her like he loved Aly, but he’ll be gentle and honest and respectful with her. This I think could also become a very sweet relationship, especially after shit hits the fan and Ned realizes that Cersei and Tywin aren’t seemingly at all swayed by the fact that Eleyna is his wife. (I am imagining Ned isn’t Hand, because even Robert is like ‘you’re too sad to be helpful to me’ and therefore he isn’t beheaded. But he does still go down to KL for Stannis’ Hand Tournament. So it’s like in the main Frosted Fox AU.) This version lends itself to some interesting dynamics between Eleyna and the Starklings that would be very fun to explore in my opinion!

Alyssandra was born out of me loving Nedcat, but thinking about how I would react in Catelyn's position and wanting Jon to have a happy childhood. I made her a Tully because I wanted to keep the Starklings close to canon and I wanted to retain aspects of Nedcat's canon relationship. Both of these make sense, imo, when starting from Alyssandra and Catelyn sharing a childhood—obviously they share traits/values! And then I made her mother a Blackwood so that she would worship The Old Gods like Ned, to give them easy common ground, making it more believable that they fall in love so quickly, and to make a clear change from Ned's canon marriage with Catelyn (because if Alyssandra did follow The Seven, Ned obviously would have still had a sept built, and that feels to me like just stealing a very important part of Nedcat's relationship).

There is an extended Alyverse of sorts! It's split into Frosted Fox (anything with her and Ned) and Flaming Fox (anything with her and either Maekar or Baelor). Those are further split into a multitude of AUs, most of which are planned to be only three chapters at most. There are also a number of oneshots that are set within the main fic, but which were written in response to a specific prompt and thus are posted on their own!

I haven’t talked about it yet!! I’ve based Alyssandra’s Winterfell wardrobe largely on traditional Kazakh and Turkish styles, and her girls follow suit, so an everyday look for Sansa growing up is something like this:

Nedaly call Sansa ‘starling’, so she definitely has some pieces featuring feathers that she’s quite fond of, and any feathers her golden eagle sheds are absolutely used to make more pieces.

When in The Riverlands, Sansa (like Alyssandra) tends to wear hair accessories like on the left (although her hair is only half up, so it’s loose under the flowers). On Dragonstone, her hair is more frequently gathered/up, with numerous larger pieces of jewelry in it, like on the right.

The first piece that’s special to her is a pair of scale-mail epaulets that Brynden gives her as a wedding gift. (Alyssandra has multiple pairs and the first pair was an 18th nameday gift from him!)

The second special piece is the kokoshnik-style crown that Alyssandra and Arya make Sansa for her wedding. It is absolutely her favorite of her crowns, and she wears it almost exclusively for events while she and Steffon are serving as Lord and Lady Paramount of The Trident.

The third special piece is actually a set that Ned, Best Girl Dad Ever, commissioned for Sansa to celebrate Minisa’s birth. He chose rubies because she’s known as ‘The Ruby Doe’.

Okay okay random question. What is Nedaly's relationship with Steffon and Catnis' with Sansa??

Another long response, sorrrrryyyyyy!!!

Nedaly have a bit of an advantage when it comes to the in-law relationship because Steffon is fostered at Winterfell. Steffon has always admired Ned (he’s similar to his own father, and they clearly respect each other) and he’s obviously heard many positive things about Aly from Catelyn, and the ways in which she’s similar to his mother make him even more respectful and attentive than he would be towards just any high lady. So off to a very good start.

Ned finds Steffon to be a very easy lad to teach and communicate with. He enjoys his company and the balance he provides between Robb and Jon. (Except when all three determine an injustice has occurred. Then no one is balanced. But Ned probably isn’t either, so.) (Looking at you, Petyr fucking Baelish.) Alyssandra also finds Steffon to be generally easy to manage, and she appreciates that he's kind towards her younger children. Ned doesn't understand that Baratheon fury, but he has no reason to think Steffon would ever direct it at Sansa or their children, and Alyssandra sometimes finds him a bit quiet, but overall, Nedaly like Steffon and think that he is a worthy husband for Sansa. And Steffon trusts both of them as people he can go to for advice when he can't go to his parents (for whatever reason).

Sansa and Catelyn get along well—Sansa is sweet and attentive and well-spoken and generally just a good highborn lady. Her 'rougher' bits Catelyn is very willing to put up with, as they aren't anything to be surprised by in a daughter of her beloved cousin (riding and falconry are the main things). Catelyn's one gripe is that Sansa is, flirtatious feels like the wrong word, because she's so young, maybe boy-crazy from the age of about 11. (When the Starks are in King's Landing for Stannis' Hand celebration, Sansa has an ever-rotating collection of young men at her side. Ned gives up remembering any of their names by day five and simply waves his hand vaguely and says 'your boy' when he has to refer to any of them.) (Obviously he still remembers Loras. But that's the only one.) But Catelyn's gripe is more with Alyssandra than Sansa, for allowing her to entrance all these young men then abandon them. Aly thinks this is very funny; she has no intention of ever intervening.

Stannis actually really likes Sansa. Their brands of autism go extremely well together. Stannis and Sansa frequently work on projects together, both within their duties as Prince and Lady and things related to their personal interests. (Sansa totally gets into the model ship shit Stannis and Steffon do. Catelyn cannot for the life of her comprehend why the three of them like sitting in complete silence, glaring at tiny pieces of wood.) And Stannis is honestly rather impressed by Sansa's mastery of socializing, and is very grateful for her willingness to assist Catelyn in keeping people away from him.

Sansa overall feels positively towards her in-laws. The only time she gets truly annoyed with them is following Minisa's birth. Minisa isn't a particularly difficult newborn, but Catnis kind of can't help themselves from giving a LOT of input. (She is their first grandchild after all!) And Sansa knows they mean well, but it's overwhelming and sometimes they push things that she KNOWS won't work for her and her baby and they just don't listen when she tries to tell them that! Luckily, her mama gracefully intervenes and kindly tells her dear cousin and her husband to shut the seven hells up or she'll be taking their shared grandchild to Winterfell or possibly Braavos. The suggestions are offered only when asked for after that.
