This is meant to be a fast and fun doodle so I apologize for the roughness~
@gangler you deleted your reblog so maybe you didn’t really wanna talk about this after all but i already typed out this whole thing so here it is.
Basically Meg and Mari are really, really, REALLY teased as a couple, harder then pretty much any of granblue’s other queerbait duo’s, but they still stop just short of letting them just be a fucking canon couple. You could definitely argue that theres more then enough there to declare them canon. I do! And its not like every pairing needs to have an onscreen kiss to prove it’s validity. but. With granblue, which has a history of queerbaiting like this while never having a single actual canon gay pairing, yeah, they kind of need to commit to it and make it explicit at least once.
Mari is shown to be pretty unambiguously in love with Meg throughout the zombie event, to the point that her new journal entry even mentions her “love for meg” as one of her primary motivators for her new job. Meg however is left in that generic “Mari is my dear friend!” setting where she can forever be oblivious to Mari’s obvious romantic intentions and its funny, i guess? They even have a whole thing at the end of the event where Mari is captured by the bad guy and Meg’s like “wow, i didn’t realize how much she means to me till now” but despite the narrative having a perfect moment for it at the end of the event they still don’t get to fucking kiss. and then SSR Meg’s fate eps are just more of that, Mari being in love and Meg being oblivious.
Like i said the subtext is basically nearly text at this point, but they stop just before having the gals become an official couple. they clearly want to do it, they teased the hell out of it way harder then i ever thought they would, but they stop just short and leave that plausible deniability on Meg’s end of things. Which feels extremely reminiscent of Vira being openly in love with Katalina but Kat’s never allowed to really respond to her feelings, either to accept them or turn her down and we’re left with this one sided thing forever.
i like to imagine that in this case giving her the gold ring really means passing it to Mari while Meg’s distracted and giving her a thumbs up.
