Hi! So I was the anon that brought up the sexism re: Mai and Zuko, glad to see others take up the point. I'm too new/late/old in the fandom to squabble about the love lives of fictional characters, but seriously, Mai dismisses Zuko *once*, makes a questionable moral judgment *once* with TomTom. Zuko sent an assassin after the Gaang. That's a double standard if I ever did see one and seeing it play out amongst fans of my fav show that celebrates diversity is upsetting (can you tell I'm new here?)

I have heard tales of the Kataang-Zutara ship wars of old. Legends say that they were fierce things, and battles raged on through the years, and through the long winters and summers. They say that if you listen closely, you can still hear the remnants of the ship war raging on through the fandom. 

Maybe it’s lucky that it’s only ship hate that’s happening right now.

Wait, Mai never told ZUKO that he was turning into his father, did she? She told it to Ty Lee at the tea shop (unless I missed something). It's not fair for her to think that, but she doesn't owe him an apology. Unless her judgment is somewhat clouded by it and it shows in her interactions with him, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Ohhhh, you might be right. 

I think it would be in the Promise Part one, and my copy is in the US, so I have no idea.

Thanks for your answer! I guess I didn't see it that way because though I will ride or die for Maiko, Zuko always seemed a little disinterested in his love life (he runs a country after all) so I was just happy to see him talk about it for once, bad timing aside. Also in that situation Mai's snide remarks weren't really helping. Which is why it was nice to see the portrait scene where Mai literally shoving the issue aside to focus on Tom-Tom.

The writers were always good at showing us, these are still KIDS we’re dealing with. 

   Like Aang has to save the world, but he still has dreams of not wearing pants to an important thing. 

   Zuko IS trying so hard to rule the country and focus, but he’s still a teenager who’s still got it hard for his first love and hasn’t really gotten that sometimes you don’t get a third chance in life. Mai’s trying to start a new life for herself, but she’s hasn’t realized to do that you have to allow yourself to be open to be hurt sometimes. 

It’s All WONDERFUL I love seeing it all unfold.
