The King came for the waters, which he would drink every morning, then have a walk around the town with no entourage to discourage onlookers. The mineral water from Marienbad’s natural spring was reputed to have curative properties and Helped to establish the town as one of Europe’s top spas.
Other famous visitors included Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Nicolas II of Russia, Franz Joseph I of Austria Hungary, Frederic Chopin, Richard Wagner and Thomas Edison.
