"You wouldn't happen to have some extra fabric to spare would you?" Today had been such a busy day that Elina had nearly forgotten a promise she'd made to Olaf about helping with some costumes for his next play that was to be performing tomorrow. "I'd make some myself but I'm on a bit more of a time crunch then I expected to be." If she wanted to get those costumes done she couldn't afford spending a moment making the fabric first like she'd originally planned to do.
❛ You are not who I expected to find . IS DANTE NOT HERE ? ❜

what do you think would have happened if crepsley would have blooded steve anyways and taken him on as a vampire assistant / @mariiposas unprompted questions status: always accepting !
Okay so- If Crepsley would have blooded Steve we know that is basically a HUGE violation. The vampires have a set of rules that distinguish them from the vampaneze for a reason. They try not to just go around blooding people for no reason and they actually respect life rather than take it for the sake of food nor do they turn others simply because someone wants it. They have their own ways of feeding without harming and ensure that they aren't changing people for funsies so on so forth yeah?
Turning a child simply because he asked would be not a good idea because it's against the set of rules they have. It goes against the terms of 'respecting life' too. Because without a proper reason of turning him- for example Darren due to needing the antidote and the entire mess that created, it would be irrationally taking a whole possible future and life from a child who can't rationally make the decision of becoming a vampire. The decision to be changed is something extremely delicate because there is no going back. At least that's likely how the princes would look at it. When he said the generals would tear him a part he wasn't entirely wrong, although I doubt any of them especially Lydia and Gavner would do so without hesitation.
It's also hard to think of how much different it could be considering the entire thing was orchestrated by Desmond. Destiny himself is incredibly hard to defy and I think either way somehow eventually Darren would still be on the side of the vampires while Steve was a vampaneze because Darren doesn't have the same mindset for killing and bloodshed as Steve does. Desmond had done what he did for a reason because they both perfectly fit their roles. He KNEW Darren would be tempted by the spider, he ensured the flier got to them and that they received tickets, he made sure it was Steve and Darren. Not Darren and Alan, not Steven and Tommy, etc. Those two.
All in all I think no matter what, even if he blooded Steve and even if Crepsley somehow got out of the consequences, Steve would never truly be his apprentice. Not for long at least. At some point their roles would have settled into their places as long as Desmond could help it/make sure of it happening.
I genuinely can't see any universe where they have reverses roles due to their personalities being so different but also just because Destiny would have been like "oop nope don't like that" LMAO. It's not impossible if Desmond actually allowed the role reversal, but it would take Steve becoming more level-headed and less into war and bloodshed while Darren would have to be a lot less kind, caring, and considerate because he definitely isn't the type to hurt anyone unless he has to. I also feel like both of their different upbringings played a big role in all of that.
TLDR: I think no matter what happened, Desmond still would have gotten his way just like he always does.
Now I’m even more curious, what’s Lydia’s opinion of Kurda? / @mariiposas unprompted questions status: always accepting !
HOOOOOOO this is a whole box of angst I didn't know I'd be unpacking ajsdkjas.
So I haven't talked much about her relationships with the other vampires on this blog as I have on past blogs for Lydia (had two others and lost the passwords because I have the memory of peanut), but she was also good friends with Kurda Smahlt. I could actually lowkey argue she was closer to Kurda than she was with any of the others but she won't talk about him unless pried so it's not easily brought up. Lowkey almost shipped them even, but that's a whole other thing. He was closer to her age compared to the others she knew or met (who most were MUCH older than her and Darren was much younger while Kurda was only 30 years older than Lydia).
If Kurda is brought up in post story 'present' parts of her timeline Lydia refuses to talk about it for several reasons. His betrayal was one of the most hurtful moments in her time as a vampire besides the loss of Rosaline (I say this because nothing can be more hurtful than her time being alive and losing everything all at once, but this crept fairly close to agonizing).
Yet, despite what he had done, she does make a passing mention after his death that she could never truly hate him as much as she absolutely wanted to for what he did because Kurda always had good intentions and only ever put others first rather than himself. She even broke down after his execution when she was finally alone. Any mention of Kurda is painful enough, it's fairly easy to see it in her eyes no matter how hard she tries to hide it. Which of course that leads to him becoming Harkat.
I'd say knowing that the tiny people belonged to Desmond made her EXTREMELY distrustful towards them. I'm talking anytime poor little guy was around her she would stare daggers into him like he was some type of monster to be rid of, but after it's revealed that he was Kurda before there's an entire turn around in her attitude towards him. More polite, eyes softening when she looks at him, etc. Although she still looks extremely sad when she does lay eyes on him. She doesn't really speak to him though. She refrains from it even though he doesn't remember anything himself even after Desmond revealing it(especially since his reaction to that is different depending on the Manga or Book), and remains that way towards him. She never sees Harkat again after the events of the series, but muses about him fondly saying she found him 'endearing and somewhat adorable' yet won't outright say it's because of his connection to Kurda.
NOW IF WE GO WITH ALTERNATE TIMELINE WE GET A GLIMPSE OF AT THE END OF THE SERIES (which l lowkey wanna make a verse for because happier??? Lydia? Come on now-)
I'd say with many of the ones she lost being alive, her personality changes a lot. All of the deaths experiences contributed to Lydia being more cold and distant as well as definitely contributed to her habit of pushing others away. If theoretically that alternate timeline happened instead and Kurda was somehow alive, she would still hold Kurda in high regard noting that he might have been a traitor before, but she herself eventually forgave him. So she would be much more willing to be openly opinionated about him and it would mostly be positive rather than driven by her feelings of being upset and hurt.
TLDR: Her feelings towards that man are a little sus, but she wont admit it nor talk about him because everything that happened with him was too painful.
Also their personalities were very similar in terms of 'intelligence/kindness over fighting strength' and I think if we put all of those events aside Lydia genuinely liked him for not only that but just how kind-hearted Kurda was. Other vampires may have seen that as a weakness, but Lydia admired him for it and often thought he made up for what some of the others lacked.
who would you say is lydia’s favorite of the vampire princes? / @mariiposas unprompted question status: always accepting !
I got way too excited to answer this because it's a really good question. Some of this is me adding some info and going off on mild tangent from excitement I'm so sorry LMAO.
It's a whole thing with Lydia that at times she doesn't get along with the Vampire Princes. Which (slight tangent) fun fact that some who haven't read the book don't know they're not actual royalty. They can be chosen. I am saying passed this point there are spoilers in case anyone wants to read them, but this book series is almost as old as me. It's been 23 years since the release of book one so I'm gonna just go into it.
Darren himself becomes a prince for a while. Arguably, with how much Lydia cared about Darren and Crepsley, I'd say Darren was her favorite while he was still around. But if we go with post story timeline and the other one she got along with somewhat more, it would be Vancha March. All of them are much older than Lydia is which makes it hard for her to see eye-to-eye with some of them at times, but he's one that she has been able to level with more than the others. She was very bias when it came to Paris before his death (still is) because the relationship she had with him can be seen as 'fatherly'. She admired him and respected him greatly. He was one of the reasons that Lydia came to the realization that revenge wasn't something she should allow to consume her existence and her anger was only making her harm those around her that cared for her.
Darren on the other hand was much easier to get a long with because Lydia could relate to Darren. Not only was she turned close to the age he was turned and due to circumstances that she couldn't really help as well, but she saw him as a little brother (yes even after he "purged" becoming a full vampire and looked older than her he was still lovingly 'an annoying little brat').
There is a verse that diverges from canon and make the princes more merciless than they tend to be to accommodate plot for fun (verse with ghostofaformerself Rayne), but in reality Lydia does get along with them to varying degrees and canonically in the book they're all fairly kind. She is a general. She is meant to be one of their soldiers so she does always show a level of respect as well. Also probably keeps them on their toes it's fine.
Why I'm saying most of this is because there are reasons why it's kinda hard to say who is her favorite. She doesn't get along with Mika because of his hatred for spiders (she'd probably die for Madam Octa lbr) already and she sees him as really moody and 'no fun, truthfully'. But she still respects him. Arrow she is indifferent towards, but shares a lot of sympathy to his past having also lost her loved ones to a vampaneze(who killed her family and started the fire in the first place to add insult to injury because of their connection to her mentor Rosaline which is a whole other box to unpack as to why her family was connected to vampires in the first place- and later that same vampaneze killed Rosaline too during the war of scars).
The only one alive that Lydia has a good standing and relationship with and could call her favorite is Vancha March especially seeing as she is often at his beck and call without question when needed, but I'd say that changes depending on where on the timeline in the books is that we're talking about.
Fun fact though: there was a point Lydia was asked to be a prince, but declined because she felt it was too much responsibility to bear and was content with her position as a general as she still is in the more recent parts of her timeline.

"You know, the fact that you're leading with that doesn't really help your case, Camilo." Mirabel lets out a sigh. While she of course was going to give her primo the benefit of the doubt, her instinct told her that he did have something to do with the situation at hand.
"Can you at least explain to me what even happened?"
