The exact number of entanglements per year is difficult to pinpoint as entanglements can happen far out at sea out of our sight. However, research suggests that over 300,000 whales and dolphins die from entanglement in fishing gear or marine debris every year. 💔 Since whales and dolphins are mammals, the need to breathe air. If they become tangled up in heavy gear, they cannot reach the surface to breathe.
