For more than 30 years, Garfield-shaped phones kept washing up on beaches in Brittany, France. Locals finally traced them to a broken shipping container stuck in a sea cave since the 1980s that kept leaking the phones out with the tides.

Even sea monsters won't survive all the plastic trash dangers out in the ocean... plastic, the greatest monster slayer there is!
World Ocean Day
On World Oceans Day, it is crucial that we unite to protect and preserve these invaluable resources. By recognizing the immense importance of oceans and taking collective action to address issues such as pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction, we can ensure the long-term health and sustainability of our oceans.
This week is Clean Beaches Week, the perfect time to think about how the plastic you use impacts the ocean and other ecosystems.
The trash we discard here on land can make its way into the sea, where it travels into distant ecosystems. By refusing, reducing, reusing, repurposing, and recycling, you can help reduce marine debris and negative impacts on wildlife throughout the ocean. (Photo: Douglas Croft. Plastics are a threat to all marine life, not just seabirds. But in Aotearoa New Zealand we know very little about how plastics are impacting our ecosystems and marine species. In areas of high human density like the Auckland region, we’re concerned that plastic pollution may be having serious impacts on our resident seabird species. While we need to do some research to understand this, it’s more important for us to start reducing plastic pollution in our region sooner rather than later - and this is something that we can all do. Reducing our plastic use is a simple step towards a more sustainable future, and also restoring ecosystems to protect threatened species like seabirds. ⠀ ⠀ These plastics were collected on the Sisters islands in the Chatham Islands. The only way for plastics to reach these rocky islands is in the stomach of a Northern Royal albatross, and this is a mere fraction of the debris collected. It’s a stark reminder of the huge impact we are having on the planet. ⠀ ⠀ #conservation #seabirdscience #bird_lovers_daily #plasticpollution #marine #ocean #plastic #bird_illife #seabird #albatross #aotearoa #newzealand #chathamislands #seachange #plasticfreeforthesea #pollution #endangeredspecies #blueplanet #oceanplastic #seabirdstory #yearofthebird #conservationphotography #conservationphotographer #birdnerd https://www.instagram.com/p/ByOaCZLgvtP/?igshid=xeomhunx54ze

I went snorkelling today and only managed to see these few pieces of rubbish! If everyone just picks up a few pieces of rubbish, we can make a huge difference! I found: chewing gum, lots of plasters, price tags and other bits of plastic! Even though i only removed a small amount, if we all do it there will be a significant reduction in ocean plastic! @lovemybeach_nw #oceanplastic #snorkelling #litterpick #beachclean #minibeachclean #plasticpollution #pollutionfree #doyourbit #doyourpart @lifewateruk @plasticfreejuly @oceanicpreservationsociety @passportocean @plastic_pollutionsolution 💙🌎🌊 https://www.instagram.com/p/BmbfwcRlr2l/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1c3za5vuttqme
