hello !! sorry to bother you but I'm having trouble with km player for making captures and I wanted to know the steps for making good gif with vlc please ? Or maybe do you know a good tutorial ? Because your gifs are really nice ! :)
First of all, thank you! I’m going to publish this in case someone else wants to know, so I hope you see it!
I make gifs with vlc when I gif from dvds, because for some reason I can’t get dvds to work with km player (I’ve googled and tried every possible solution, ugh). Anyway, this is how I do it, I’m sure there are other methods.
1. Go to Tools -> Preferences -> Hotkeys and assign a hotkey to “take a snap shot” that isn’t already being used. Or just use the one already assigned, I think I do that. Save and restart vlc
2. Go to Tools -> Preferences -> Video and pick a location for your snap shots. I made a folder on my desktop to make it easier
4. Open the dvd or video file and find what you want to screencap and stop a few seconds before it. Now you’re going to slow down the video so your gif looks smoother. Go to Playback -> Speed, and click the little dotted line on top so that the box “comes loose”. Click the down arrow on your keyboard until the speed says 0.12. You have to do this for every new clip you open because these settings won’t be saved
5. Now, press whatever hotkey(s) you assigned, click play, and keep holding down the hotkey(s) until you’ve capped everything. Always start capping a few seconds before what you want to gif because it usually skips a few frames in the beginning, at least for me. I also turn the volume down because listening to the audio while the video is slowed down annoys me xD
Now you should have your screencaps! This is slower than using km player, but it works.
Make sure you play through your gif a few times in photoshop just to see if it’s skipped or mixed up some frames. Sometimes you’ll have to go in and delete a frame that makes the gif jump.
