Marji, her leg, and her summons
I was reading through some old writing for her and I noticed how much she just...flung herself in all directions. She was doing somersaults and jumping and sprinting, flailing through everything. Being able to move freely was such a part of her character until she was cursed.
After the events with Lahabrea and Ultima she had to learn how to walk again. She can't actually feel anything in her left leg at all at the best of times. When she looks at it, she can physically see she has one, she can touch it, but if she ever feels it it feels like phantom pain. Nerves floating in space that sends vibrations up and down emptiness.
After a while she's learned how to be able to walk and run again, but it takes concentration. She has to know exactly where her left leg is going to be, where it will end up, how much pressure she should feel in her thigh instead of the balls of her feet. In bursts its easy, but if it's over hours or days it takes a mental toll.
She's learned to have a staff on hand at all times. It takes part of the mental load off her mind with it. She can rely on it to carry her and free some of her thoughts to other things, but still its a stop gap. It's taxing when she's having a good day, unmanageable when not. Stress exacerbates the problem as well. It's like a mental wall shows up and she can't even pretend to know where she's stepping. All of it is just...gone. She's hopping on one leg at that point, she can't run, sprint, crouch, nothing.
A problem for someone who's supposed to be the warrior of light.
So she starts relying on her egis more often. She plants in one spot in combat, having her egis move for her. She can be carried by Titan, helped up by Garuda, forced forward by Ifrit. She uses Bahamut to get to areas quickly, and it makes being a summoner incredibly important. Her grimoire isn't only her weapon but a living aid as well.
While it does create this aura from others that shes immovable, can face all dangers head on, its only because that is how she's been able to continue to work without cutting off her leg and replacing it with magitek or some sort of other prosthetic. The permanence of that scares her moreso than the reliability of her summons at this point
Character disabilities
Question to the community: does your WoL/OC have some sort of disability? I'd love to hear about them
Weird headcanon that I have for Thancred is he goes through a variety of body types since knowing him back in ARR.
ARR Thancred: Closest to the in-game model in my head. Buff but a vixation on vanity muscles along with working muscles. Perfectly fixed hair, beard touched up every day, the works. Even going so far as to shave or do something with his body hair.
Heavensward Thancred: Vanity muscles are mostly gone as he's had to fend for himself and eventually trade with the Gnath. Vanity everything is mostly gone as he was more focused on survival and the loss of the bloody banquet.
Stormblood Thancred: What I would consider the slimmest he's gotten, as he seemed more of an Espionage character than the swagger he had before. He would have some of the sculpting back as he'd exercise for work rather than for pleasure/survival
Shadowbringers Thancred: A juxtaposition. Gauntness haunts him despite being bigger than before. Doesn't eat much and becomes wiry to match how high strung he was when we see him again. Dark circles around his eyes from constant lookout, and a funk he can't seem to get out of.
Endwalker Thancred: Loses the tautness the first brought over him and gets bigger. I'd say the strongest version of him where theres some fat back on his muscles as he's eating regularly again (despite the end times etc). With his aether manipulation stoppered for so long he's finally leaning into learning how Garlean's and other non aether users work.
Dawntrail Thancred: The biggest he's gotten, with an actual belly protecting all the muscles beneath. While the muscles aren't the picture perfect definition of ten years ago, he could wipe the floor with his younger versions. Everything about him is more relaxed, as stubble can be seen around his jaw and he no longer shaves everything down to the quick. Happy and healthy. Out of all of them I'd say he'd have the most physical transformations per expansion.
