International Maggott Day is May 10th!

The Ascended Minion Project isn’t just about collecting trinkets of pleasure.  As Steve’s new Magic piece Forsake the Worldly tells us it is important to consider our emotional and spiritual needs.  Some of us are like family now and it is with that connection in mind I hope you will join me in celebrating International Maggott Day.

I take the inspiration of Steve Argyle’s late brother Mark Argyle.  He was a creative soul in his own right and also a force in multiple gaming communities.  He brought people together in his own unique way and although I didn’t get the chance to know him I am deeply moved by the endurance and continuing respect and admiration of his family.

On May 10th we will be celebrating not our mutual desires but our mutual connection with friends and family that make everything else we do matter.

Steve Argyle - Comic Panels for “The Maggott Show” by Mark Argyle

Finding the history of the series is beyond my researching skills.  A small band of rebels seems to crop up here and there trying to keep this series from disappearing completely into the lower basement levels of the internet.  There are some of the earliest episodes archived on youtube but there are over 100 episodes.

The Maggott Show appears to be a part of the larger world developed within an organization called OPERATION CWAL (some sort of Starcraft fan-fic group I haven’t learned too much about yet that Mark was apparently involved with early on.)  The earliest instance of “Emperor Maggott” I’ve seen in cwal.net comes all the way from July 23, 2007.  The show has a descriptive page posted by someone called “JarickCWAL” dated December 7, 2000 (their third post on their first day of activity on the site - this individual apparently joined everything2.com just to talk about CWAL stuff.)

Anyway, this message board post, dated March 27, 2005, mentions Frugle getting “his unit removed and replaced with a cappitino machine *see episode 26*”   That episode predates this date for certain.  This comic, which shows Frugle with a cappuccino machine in his pants, can be dated to a similar time period perhaps?

Steve has also done some 3D work with the character Frugle.

For the dedicated completionist, here is a store that has Dying Lights and Star Thugs in stock still.  These two games were designed by Steve's brother Mark and are some of the earliest examples of Steve Argyle's artwork to appear on a published product.

condolences

After a second glance down Steve's tumblr blog a moment ago I realized as a group the selection of posts held a pattern.  Dying Lights, The Maggott Show, and Darth Malak are all related to Steve's brother Mark.

Today, October 1, 1994 is the fifth anniversary of his passing.

I solemnly ask the minions to join me in wishing the entire Argyle family well today and always.

Family

I have something to say and I apologize if I can't say it very well.  I have discovered an older piece of news during my research into some of Steve Argyle's older projects.  I was preparing my research on Steve's work for the game products made by GhazPORK Industrial.  I noticed that the designer's name for the two games made by this company was Mark Argyle, so I looked into that.

... and then I cried.  Mark James Argyle died on October 1, 2009.  I am not a personal friend of the Argyle family but I am a son, a brother, a husband, and a father.  I want to express my sorrow at this news, however late.  Please forgive me for bringing up any sadness.
