Bootleg recorded at the 55 Bar in Greenwich Village. Singer Margret Grebowicz performs "I'm A Broken Heart", a song written and originally recorded by duo The Bird and the Bee, for their debut release on Blue Note Records. Grebowicz beautifully teases out the melody. Roseman murmurs and squawks a solo, while the usually guitar-equipped here bass-dutied Monder lays it down and Ferber stretches the time (at 3:56 it's 3 over 4 but with the new downbeats landing on the 2nd, 4th, and 6th quarter note triplets of each measure of the original tempo), before melody returns, and a curious ending is improvised, over which Grebowicz reaffirms that she "might be dying". -KR
