Song(s) of your country
Rules: share a song of a performer from your country (for US folks: state) and write something about it.
Thanks for the tag, @sorcerousadventurer! Since I'm from the US, I had to narrow it down to my state. I'm going to do two, because I currently live in one state, but consider myself from another.
So for my home state (New York), we're going to go with "I'm Still Here" by John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls. Yes, "Iris" was everywhere in the late 90s (when I was in high school), but this song from Treasure Planet is actually one of my favorites.
Sometimes, when a movie includes a whole song in the middle of it, it can stand out weirdly. Not this one. The montage it goes with, especially showing Jim's past and how it shaped him into what he is during the movie, works really well in my opinion, and includes some very good animation as well as character development for Long John Silver.
Anyway.
For my current state (Georgia), well....
Look, my music tastes may be extremely varied, but country music holds a special place in my heart, and there are a lot of country musicians from Georgia. I thought I wasn't going to be able to pick one.
Until I saw Mark Wills on the list.
I'm going with "I Do (Cherish You" from Mark Wills, because that was my wedding song.
I've loved this song since I first heard it on the radio as a teen. I love the sentiment in it, and Mark Wills' voice is gorgeous in my opinion. I wanted this to be my wedding song someday. (Luckily, my husband doesn't have strong opinions about music, and didn't mind.)
And listening to it now, I feel like I could apply it to several of my favorite ships, which is a bonus. 😁
