Veterans award scholarship to ASU ROTC student
Sun Devil John Lillyblad has been awarded a generous scholarship in recognition of his dedication to ASU and to our country. Lillyblad, a Naval ROTC student who has been able to maintain an excellent GPA, decided to apply for the USS Little Rock Association Scholarship. This competitive scholarship is awarded to only a few students involved in the ROTC, but his outstanding qualifications allowed him to receive the top scholarship. Approaching the end of his college career, Lillyblad will be able to benefit from this scholarship while getting his computer science degree.
The USS Little Rock Association – formed by veterans – focuses on assisting future and potential Navy officers. Lillyblad is grateful for the opportunity this association has given him and hopes to do the same for future ROTC students.

ASU alumna makes a mark selling scarves to help breast cancer patients
Even in the The Valley of the Sun, the weather begins to cool down in October. It’s not only a month of changing weather but also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tempe boutique, Here on the Corner, is owned by W. P. Carey School of Business alumna Julie Kent and addresses both issues by helping shoppers keep warm this season and supporting a good cause. During the month of October, Here on the Corner teamed up with Singleton Moms, a local organization which supports single parents with cancer. For every scarf purchased, Here on the Corner will donate a scarf to a single parent with cancer. Kent’s mother and close friend inspired her to help because both were diagnosed with cancer.
Not only is Kent grateful for what Singleton Moms does, but she also believes in making women with cancer feel beautiful. With the end October approaching, Kent would like to finish off strong by selling 2 to 3 scarves a day.
Here on the Corner is located at University Drive and College Avenue. So stop in and pick up a scarf to support a great cause!

Mark It, ASU — GQ-style!
Three outstanding students from the ASU Foundation's Communications & Marketing department — Patricia Oliverio-Lauderdale, Max Ray and Andrew Franz — produced this neat interview piece in the style of a GQ Magazine interview. Flip through their interview to learn more about my role as the mark of philanthropy at Arizona State University.
