Good evening sir. (well, evening for me) I have a question for you. my fiancé and i are both Dandies at heart, but unfortunately we dont have the funds to dress as lavishly as we both want (we're living on broke college kid/artist budgets), what are some tips for building a Dandy wardrobe/building a Dandy lifestyle when you're piss-broke? Any advice would be greatly taken. You're a big inspiration to my love and I, both as a dandy and an artist. ~Cheers! <3
I’m a working artist, so I’m certainly not getting bespoke suits off Savile Row. And I find that fashion tends to be about the price tag, while style is about the substance. Save up and invest in things that are high quality, will last you, and that you use every day - I find that I can’t really cut corners on shoes and winter coats and jackets. As for the rest - scour thrift shops, sales, online retailers, costume shops, and accessorize.
When I was being photographed for I Am Dandy, Rose, the photographer, asked me about where the particular outfit I was wearing came from because she really liked it. And most of what I was wearing came from H&M - the devil was in the details of my jewelry, my pocket square, my tie. Accessories bring out the best in an outfit, and they are also the perfect way for you to express the uniqueness of your own style. And finally, don’t be afraid to completely change your look when you get bored of it, or if it does not suit who you are or how you want to express yourself anymore. And don’t be afraid to buy and wear something that brings you joy, even if it doesn’t suit what you think of as your style or aesthetic. Be silly and self-indulgent in how you adorn your flesh prison.
Spooky Auntie! I have a question... whereabouts in the world are you? Its actually one of my dreams to meet you since you are the one who inspired me to go back into the Goth scene. :3 I'm sorry if this is creepy but i mean no ill will of course!!
I’m in Seattle, WA, sweetie! And pretty easy to spot when I’m out roaming around town.
Which reminds me, it’s time for the semi-regular Auntie Jilli PSA: if you spot me somewhere, feel free to come say hi! Don’t be scared! Come introduce yourself (and warn me if you’re okay with hugs, because I’m a hugger)! I may not have a lot of time to chat, but I always like meeting you peeps!
I do not know whyy😂😂
Hey so, I have a question. I'm a pre-everything trans man, and when it comes to physical dysphoria, I don't really have it that much anymore. I do have GENDER dysphoria. But when it comes to me looking at myself naked or whatever, I mostly just think "well, it's not MY body. But it's what I have for the time being, may as well make do with what I have for now." I have been told this "doesn't make me trans". So am I supposed to have crippling body hate every day? Am I doing something wrong?
dysphoria isn’t body hate or self-hate, and it doesn’t have to be “crippling”. dysphoria often fluctuates in severity, and you have to remember that being transgender is marked by the presence of dysphoria, rather than its intensity.
being able to cope =/= not having gender dysphoria, which i’ll define for you:
Psych Central
"In order for someone to be diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria today, they must exhibit a strong and persistent cross-gender identification (not merely a desire for any perceived cultural advantages of being the other sex)."
“In adolescents and adults, the disturbance is manifested by symptoms such as a stated desire to be the other sex, frequent passing as the other sex, desire to live or be treated as the other sex, or the conviction that he or she has the typical feelings and reactions of the other sex.”
WebMD
"For example, a person who has a penis and all other physical traits of a male might feel instead that he is actually a female. That person would have an intense desire to have a female body and to be accepted by others as a female."
"With gender dysphoria, the discomfort with your male or female body can be so intense that it can interfere with the way you function in normal life, for instance at school or work or during social activities.""Gender dysphoria used to be called “gender identity disorder.” But the mismatch between body and internal sense of gender is not a mental illness."
NHS (UK)
"This mismatch between sex and gender identity can lead to distressing and uncomfortable feelings that are called gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria is a recognised medical condition, for which treatment is sometimes appropriate. It is not a mental illness."
"Gender dysphoria is not the same as transvestism or cross-dressing and is not related to sexual orientation."
Yes hello I am responding to your villainous kintypes thing. One of my kintypes is Eddie Gluskin from Outlast so I feel u QWQ
Ahhh thank u a bunch ;w;
You DO need dysphoria to be TRANS, my friend. It's what deprecated you from cis people. Gender dysphoria is a disconnect between your physical self and your mental self. It's when you look in the mirror and you don't recognize yourself and say "this is not my body." "Dysphoria" does not always mean "I hate my breasts/vagina/penis/etc." that is sex dysphoria. If you do not have that disconnect (NOT sex dysphoria, but GENDER dys) then you, by scientific and medical standards, aren't TRANS.
nah. just not identifying as the gender you were assigned at birth is enough. also scientific and medical standards are often bullshit, they are almost always created by cis people who know nothing about being trans and often they are even outdated as fuck.
