Hope (MarkJin)
Group: Got7 Pairing: MarkJin Rating: PG Prompt: “They could use me against you.” “They could try,” came the reply. “But that would be amazingly stupid of them.” “Because I’m not a threat?” They wondered if they should be insulted. “Because I would destroy anyone who dared try and use you to do something you didn’t want to do. Mutiny and betrayal is one thing, dragging unwilling people into your scheming is just wrong.”
Mark stood next to Jinyoung on the balcony of his throne room, watching the plume of smoke rose high into the air. There is a great deal of distance between the origin and the kingdom, but still, with each passing day, the distance gets smaller and smaller. It was obvious at this point the kingdom was the next target for these rogue mercenaries. And in between the kingdom and the mercenaries was the small fire village that housed a group of fairies that sided with the dragon kingdom.
Though capable of handling themselves in battle, this war had been anything but fair. Their energy source in which supplied them the magic of their powers had long since been captured by the enemy. Mark had heard the stories of fairy villages being taken over and the residents either killed or forced to become apart of the war. All were unable to protect themselves, only granted their powers back when they joined the mercenaries. While Earth, air and water were powerful elements, fire was the power they wanted most. The damage that could be done would be irreversible. Mark couldn't let his people fall to their hands. That's why he sought out help from his closest friend and king.
With a soft sigh, he turned to stare at Jinyoung, eyes taking over the serious expression of the other. His lips were posed into a deep frown, brows furrowed as he was deep in thought. He looked menacing like this and the dark greyish scale patches that covered parts of his face only added to the menacing look.
“That makes three attacks since last night. They're getting closer. We don't know what to do. They will eventually find out home.” Mark said gently. “If they...they wouldn't dare kill me.” He said. “They know of our relationship. They could use me again you.” It was a thought that had been on both of their minds; a reality that was getting closer to fruition.
“They could try,“ came the reply. “But that would be amazingly stupid of them.” Jinyoung snorted with a slight smile.
“Because I'm not a threat?” Mark asked, wondering if he should be insulted. Granted he didn't have the power to be especially threatening right now, but that didn't mean he wasn't a threat. Did It? And surely if they managed to grab him, they would restore his powers enough to use them against Jinyoung.
Jinyoung shook his head and turned to fully face him. “Because I would destroy anyone who dared to try and use you to do something you didn't want to do. Mutiny and betrayal is one thing, dragging unwilling people into your scheming is just wrong.” He said and Mark couldn't help but smile at those words.
“They're doing this to get back at me for whatever wrong doing it was I committed against them. This is between me and them. Using you and hurting all the people that they did, it's unforgivable.” Turning, he once more face the plume of smoke and heaved a deep sigh of sadness...or maybe it was regret? Mark couldn't be sure but he knew this was really affecting the other.
“Take your people and fly up into the mountains. There is a shrine up there to the great deity. Tell them I sent you and you're seeking refuge. You'll be safe there.”
“Jinyoung.” The name rolled off his tongue in a soft whisper.
“Go Mark.” Looking over his shoulder, Jinyoung flashed him a small smile. “Don’t fight with me. I need to make sure you guys are safe.”
“And what about you?”
“Well what could you do? You can't fight!” Mark winced at the words because they were the truth. But to just run away seemed like such a coward thing to do. But it had been the solution he had been weighing the most. That's why he went to Jinyoung, to see if there were any other solutions. It seemed Jinyoung also believed their was one solution.
“Promise me you'll be okay.”
“Promises are meant to be broken Mark. So I won't make any promises that I can't keep. Now please, take your people and go.” Mark’s crestfallen face had Jinyoung’s chest tightening but they both knew this was for the best. “Go.”
“I wish you the best of luck and that you will come out victorious.” Mark said with a slight nod. “If we never meet again, just know that you are my best friend and an amazing king.” Jinyoung stood there in silence, and Mark took that as his cue to leave. With a heavy heart, the two parted ways. Mark gathered the people of his village and they fled into the mountains for safety while Jinyoung prepared his shoulders for battle. The future was unclear to all of them, but there was hope. Hope of winning, of meeting once more and living peacefully once more. They clung to that hope, their only guiding light in this time of darkness.
