Americas pastime

The air is crisp, not yet warm but not as cold. The flags rise up above the stadium where the seats although still empty, roar with the spirit of the fans who will fill them in a short time. The grass green and the clay bright and even, surround the mound where soon the pitchers will stand and glare at the sluggers coming up to bat. The clubhouses are cleaned and filled with the tools needed to fulfill the dreams of the players and fulfill the expectations of the true believers, the fans. The little boys and girls who may wear a sleeve on their arm because they idolize a powerful hitter, or the babies who wear onesies to start their lives with a consistency of a game who has been around for well over a hundred years. This is baseball. It's 9 players surrounding a diamond but shining bright with their own talents.. It's baseball, not about the contracts or the trades, the agents or the owners.. When the umpire calls play ball all is forgotten and what remains is the love for the game. Anticipation turns to excitement as the first pitch is thrown and then it's a rollercoaster ride for 7 months. Losses happen but then again so do wins although those can not be predicted the outcome is still the same, the love of the game.. So welcome back baseball Americas pastime.. It's been a long winter but soon the dreams are realized and legends will cement their place in sports history. Bats will swing, homeruns will clear many fences, and for us the fans whether we watch it on tv, or at a sports bar or in person, baseball is where we find comfort in trying times, and for this 3 hours or so we find unconditional happiness..
