Being born in a family who was consumed for 7 months of the year by 25 men 9 of which surround a diamond and enthralled us for countless nail biting game after another, I feel a need to get a few things off my chest, That being said, along with everything advancing in the technological world, why is it so bizarre that baseball wouldnโt evolve with the times and try their best to draw the attention of a younger audience? Long gone are the days of politically correct, formalities and niceties in Americaโs past time. What some consider showboating a homerun and how it disrespects the foundation of the game, these same people miss the point of drawing in a younger generation where kids will idolize a player and try their best to imitate the player while playing in their back yards or little league teams or even bean ball with their friends. Kids have been doing this since back when the icon babe Ruth was hammering the long ball on murderers row. Why all of a sudden is it not right for the emotion and passion of the game to be celebrated and instead is being scrutinized and called disrespectful and arrogant? You cannot in good conscious judge a player simply by what or who he is on the field. Itโs the persona on that field that enraptures the very essence that is what has been missing from baseball for years. To me, players like David Ortiz, Jose Bautista, Carlos Gomez and others who flip a bat in a moment of adrenaline are no different from pitchers who grunt and fist pump when they strike a guy out at the plate in a tight game. Team chemistry is a huge factor and if these leaders cannot show their passion for helping their team achieve their goals then whatโs the point? During the PED era it was understood bad influences on these kids watching idolize men who essentially cheated, that being said these players are clean to the best of our knowledge. In a time when so many negative influences can turn the younger generations to making wrong choices and ending up a probable statistic, these players are there to show them that you can achieve your dreams, and live for the moment, help your team and be a leader in a world lacking leadership on so many levels. With that I say tip your cap to these extraordinary men. From the base steelers, to the power hitters, from the catchers to the pitchers, the media needs to evolve. The media needs to stop taking things out of context and release the whole story not chop it up to make headlines. Itโs this girls opinion whoโs heart beats wildly when a ball goes yard, or an amazing double play is executed or even when a pitcher strikes out 15 straight and these players have a smirk, batflip, handshakes and fist pumps, I say good for them bring the passion back to the game..
