i dunno if i’ll write this but au where iris goes to grad school at oxford and she’s a reporter for the paper (trying out journalism because you know, maybe that’s the right fit for her) and she interviews dr. marlize malan for an article about the ways that technology is improving the lives of people around the globe.they are absolutely vibing with their passion for improving the lives of people around the world and marlize is like “gee i wish that my boyfriend was this optimistic about the state of the world” and iris is like “well, maybe he shouldn’t be your boyfriend anymore” and it’s not quite professional but the situation stopped being professional a few hours and a few drinks ago. iris pulls out a notepad from her purse and writes her number on it and she’s like “if you ever want to talk, just call me. as a friend or anything else, i’ll answer” 

and then marlize discovers what clifford’s been doing very quickly and she reads and rereads the article that iris wrote about her and the work that she’s doing for humanity and how they can make the world BETTER so she leaves clifford devoe and gives iris west a ring instead. then that au version of them get married and they never have to worry about husbands ever again

marsnowwest taking turns teaching each other new words. marlize knows a bunch of weird, outdated words from throughout history; caitlin's got a lock on science-y technobabble that she can gleefully mispronounce; iris is a writer and thus knows a lot of out-there synonyms, not to mention she's probably the one that knows the most online slang/acronyms. so their date nights r very educational- precise definitions sounded out between humming kisses- and they wouldn't trade it for the world <3
