AAIIIIIYYYYAAIIII!!! It's the #soulstriprecordchallenge , brought to you by @kitten_e_face and @uncle_seabass ! Day 27: Perfect last spin for the night: Fashion - Fabrique [Arista Records, 1982] There are myriads of dope albums to end a night with. It truly all depends on how you want to end your night. Some like to end it with a bang (slight pun intended) and some like to let it dissolve into the murky ether of the dark. I am a different type. I am about atmosphere. And atmosphere comes correct for me in the form of dark rooms, heavy wind, and music. Usually of a similar atmospheric nature: windy...dark...ethereal yet street. Slow yet moderate. Pure night dopeness. Fashion simply brings on the night. Starting off as a post punk trio, by 1982 the band had morphed into a synthpop quartet. With lead vocals and guitar work from newcomer De Harriss, alongside the bass work of fellow newcomer Marlon Recchi , and the continuation of members Mulligan (synths) and Dik Davis (drums) (RIP), the band takes their sound to a street-level synth romp of danceable proportions. From the synth lattice work of "Streetplayer/Mechanik" to the new wave funk of "Dressed To Kill", all the way down to the electro soul of "Love Shadow"...the album’s overall sound is a theme unto itself. And with the album's close, "Slow Blue", there's no better send off for the night. Just you, the dark, the wind, potential mood changers, and the music. Nitegood, my babies. #albumchallenge #vinylchallenge #februarychallenge #fashion #fabrique #deharriss #deeharris #dikdavis #marlonrecchi #mulligan #synthpop #dopeness #chrislebrane
