Sensory Gardens and Marlo Primary School Fete
Last week the girls and I took their Grandma and Aunty (from out of town) on a nice little Orbost adventure. First, we had coffee at a new little cafe in town called The Wishing Tree, my second time there in a relatively short time because they're friendly, have decent coffee and a bucket of toys in the corner with some crayons and colouring books to keep the kiddies happy and occupied. Then, we walked around to Sensory Gardens in Forest Road. Sensory Gardens was a 1993 project aiming to provide skills to unemployed youth in the region and is now a pleasant park with different garden beds aiming to stimulate each of our senses: One for vision which had lots of colorful flowers blooming and even a few beautiful butterflies flying about, another for smell where each plant selected was for their aromatic properties, the flowers smelt gorgeous or the leaves released a scent when rubbed. Each of the senses were represented and we even managed to snack on a few cherry tomatoes picked from along the way. Poetry written by a local more than 100 years ago is also scattered around the gardens, plus some other pretty decorations and tables and chairs. Although it's a small area, we all enjoyed ourselves and it was well worth the visit. I would imagine that wheelchairs would have little problem getting around. From the gardens we continued along Forest Road until we could see the Snowy, then the girls had a play at Forest Park and then we walked back along Nicholson Street (the Main Street) back to the car (after a quick stop at the Info Center and to look at the Goose, our town mascot). Such a lovely day, I felt so proud to showcase part of our beautiful town! Yesterday we went to the Marlo Primary School Easter Fete, first thing I noticed was how BUSY it was! The streets were lined with parked cars and the Snowy River Cafe and Tackle Shop was overflowing! Marlo is usually such a quiet, calm little town. The fete was wonderful! There were stalls galore, competitions, rides and activities for the kids: facepainting, pony rides, zorb balls, jumping castles and dinosaur drawing classes just to name some of what was on offer. The girls had fun playing on the playground, hubby had fun eating fudge and I purchased a jar of mild chilli tomato relish to have on my sausages later. We took home 2 beautiful iced cupcakes and a showbag for each of the girls as well as a few other things and we all enjoyed our morning a lot.
