Schloss Bruchsal - Der Marmorsaal
Pictures can not capture the beauty of this room. However, this is a classica example of when the architect hates the engineer, does what he wants and almost kills everyone in the way. The floor, the walls everything you look is expensive marble, in intrincate designs weighting approximately seven tons! However this room is above the open hall of the grootsaal, which have no suppory beams to hold all this weight. The marble was inlaid on top a wooden structure, that quickly started to rot upon the polishment of the stones with water right after its construction. Under the peril of falling on top of the unsuspecting fools in the floor below, it has been subjected to several restoration projects. Today, you only walk over a bridge, in order to not damage the marble mosaics.
