Guimarães old market

Detail of the old market place extension in Guimarães, project of the architect Marques da Silva. The market place was installed on what where once the property of the old convent of S. Domingos in 1860, and extended in 1937.

To your right you will see the St. Bento train station, a building with great emphasis on geometry, and a representative of the beaux-arts style. Porto is riddled with remarkable #architecture, and São Bento is a nice focal point to it as heart of local commute. The atrium is famously panelled with azulejos and friezes depicting Portuguese ethnography, history and such but the light was terrible at the time and I really had to pee so I forgot all about taking pictures inside, you’re welcome.
