I’m writing about a swtor oc of mine, a jedi shadow. It’s for an upcoming rp I’m planning where she’s faced with an illusion she must escape, so I figured I would post this part here for now! Other characters in this passage belong to @laceandlyrium (Ellbert, Eovras, and Marrett) Vette of course, is a companion in the game so I can't claim her either :P
Keliso walked into the center of the large chamber of the temple, her light feet making little sound across the cold stone as she approached the statue at the end of the room. It depicted a tall figure kneeling down in meditation. The massive structure loomed over her, and as she looked down she saw a circular pattern carved into the floor. In the center was enough space for one person to sit comfortably. She looked back up at the statue and then with a sigh took up a similar position in the circle, lowering to her knees. “I’ll be amazed if this works.” She mumbled under her breath as she closed her eyes. She slowed her breathing in a matter of moments, and her consciousness slowly drifted.

She suddenly found herself standing in the training yard of the Academy with a vibrosword in her hand, though her saber was still at her belt. "Show us that move again Master Keliso!" She turned to see a group of children sitting just outside the training ring; they were all watching so eagerly, she was surprised to see they were referring to her, especially when they called her 'Master'. "Yeah, show us! Pleassssse?" She glanced over her shoulder towards the training dummy, and gave a curt nod.
"Very well." She wasn't entirely sure what move they were asking for, as her memory seemed to be failing her, but she approached the dummy nonetheless. The children grew quite for a moment, and Keliso launched herself into a spinning slash, her vibrosword hitting the dummy with a loud clang. It would have been more effective if she was using a double-bladed weapon like she was used to, but the kids seemed pleased nonetheless. When she turned back to them she spotted the familiar face of Ellbert approaching, his hood draped loosely on his shoulders. He walked at a brisk pace towards them with his hands folded behind him, and the scars along his face in plain view.
"Thank you, for keeping my students occupied," He bowed in an almost princely manner, as though putting on some theatrics for the children. He then came and stood beside her to face the children, "I apologize for taking so long, why don't we take a break? We can come back and start meditations after lunch. Let's all thank Master Keliso for her time."
"Thank you Master Kelisooooo!" The children all said in unison before Ellbert dismissed them, and Keliso was left scratching her head as she once again heard that title that seemed so foreign.
Ellbert motioned towards the temple, and Keli walked beside him with a curt nod, "Sooo, you're teaching now?"
Ellbert looked to her with a puzzled look on his face, "I'm not sure I understand the question Keli; I taught yesterday, and the day before that..." Then it seemingly 'clicked', "oh, I see. I'm certain I can arrange some free time if you want." With a smile, he went to take her hand into his with a smile- Keli immediately jumped, yanking her hand away.
"W-w-what're you doing?" She stopped to stare at Bert, simply dumbfounded. And she was certain her face had turned bright red at this point.
"Uh, holding your hand? I thought I was the shy one." He frowned as Keliso merely stared in shock, "My apologies, I did not intend to embarrass you." He looked down as if disappointed, making a face that sent a pang in Keliso's chest.
"Um, no, of course not Bert, you just ah- caught me off guard! I'm sorry." She scratched the back of her head. How could she be so foolish as to turn him away? And after overcoming the shock, she couldn't think of anything better than holding his hand. "Can we... try again?" She hesitantly brought her hand out again, and after a moment, Bert looked up again and smiled, taking her hand.
They continued towards the Jedi temple this way, Bert happily focused on the destination, whilst Keliso frequently looked down at their fingers laced together. Perhaps she was embarrassed; her heart was pounding and warning alarms were going off in her head like crazy. Bert didn't seem to notice her stiff hand though as they continued along. Keliso would occasionally glance around at the other Jedi passing them by, but they didn't pay them any mind. For the moment she couldn't see why this stuck out as odd, but she noticed it nonetheless.
They entered the building and Bert led her down the first hall to their left. As they walked towards the last door at the end of the hall, Bert spoke again.
"I have a surprise for you."
"Oh?" Keli wasn't sure how many more surprises she could handle today.
He looked at her with a nod, "Well, since you just got back from your big mission, I thought we should celebrate a job well done! And I know I've been busy with the padawans lately, so I invited some people I think you’ll be happy to see.” He smiled once again before opening the door.
Three familiar faces sat a long dining table: a blue Twi’lek, Vette, cradling an infant, a young half human half zabrak girl with pink skin, Marrett, and the imposing figure that Keliso knew to be Eovras, a red-skinned zabrak.
Keliso's grip on Ellbert's hand tightened, "Darth Eovras!"
"Keliso!" Eovras stood from his chair with a smile, and stepped towards them.
She instinctively stepped in front of Ellbert, "Watch out Bert!" And then, totally having misinterpretted the situation, Keliso was scooped up in Eovras's arms in one of his big bear hugs and laughed.
"It's been awhile Keliso." He said as he put her back down. By then Marrett had approached as well and gave Keli a quick hug,
"We've missed you Keli!" Marrett pulled away to smile, and somehow the genuinely cheerful expression on her face sent chills down Keli's spine. It just seemed... out of place.
"Has this one been treating you right?" Eo nodded in Bert's with a furrowed brow, not with an aggressive tone so much as a stern, protective one. Like an overbearing father.
"Oh leave him be, Eo, Bert's a nice guy." Vette chimed in, now standing beside Eo with the baby. "Right?" She looked to Bert, who gave a curt nod and smile.
"I do my best." He looked to Keli and smiled again before allowing his hand to slip away before he turned back to Vette and motioned towards the baby, "May I?"
"Of course! I'd love a break." Vette replied with a laugh, placing her child in Bert's arms, "Marett, would you help me set the table?" Marett gave a curt nod and the two ladies stepped away to prepare the table for supper.
Eovras proceeded to speak, but Keliso didn't seem to be listening at first, "Congratulations, apprentice." Keli's gaze darted from Bert and the baby to Eovras, panic written on her face.
"Why? For what?"
Eo smirked, "For a job well done on that mission of course," He glanced to Bert who was gently bouncing the baby in his arms, "What did you think I was referring to?" He looked to Keliso with a knowing smile.
"N-Nothing my lord." Keliso shook her head quickly. Eo laughed and put a hand on her shoulder.
"You are among family, Keliso, there's no need to call me that. Call me father." He looked her in the eyes and gave a nod of affirmation; he made it clear he wanted her to feel welcome and comfortable among them. Keliso smiled.
"Okay, father." She gave a curt nod, and he smiled in turn before leading her to a spot at the table where he pulled out a chair for her. She sat down and he took his place at the head of the table; by then Marrett and Vette had finished setting things up and Marrett brought out the food to set at the table.
Ellbert then handed the baby off to Vette and came to Keliso’s side, “I have to get back to the padawans, but I’ll return as soon as I’m done,” He gave a light peck on her cheek- to which, Keli’s eyes widened and her face turned red as she watched him give a nod to everyone and exit the room. She turned back to the others sitting rather rigid in her seat and clearing her throat.
"Ellbert seems so sweet Keliso," Vette told her, "Just like my Eo here!" She gave Eo a wink.
"Um. Yeah." Keliso ran her fingers along her cheek. Though she didn't think Eo or Bert were anything alike, she was a bit too lost for words to correct Vette on that account. The majority of the dinner went like this, Keliso giving answers when asked questions or prodded for conversation, but what they had spent the last hour talking about she couldn’t say. She was so distracted it was like the time passing was a haze.
She rose her head only when Eovras stood and addressed her, “Well, we best head off, it’s a long trip home.” Keliso stood up to meet him as did Marrett and Vette.
“Okay. But, will you come again soon?” Keliso asked. As she looked up at Lord Eovras, she felt like she wasn’t going to see him again for some time. He smiled and gave a curt nod.
“Of course, Keliso.”
The three of them filed out of the room one by one, leaving Keli alone to her thoughts. She glanced down at the clean white plates on the table, unable to recall what it is they even ate for supper, but she brushed it off quite easily. Her mind had been on other things after all. Well, not things, but someone.
“Keli.”
She jumped and turned to see Ellbert had been standing right behind her. He smiled sweetly.
“I didn’t think it was possible to sneak up on you,” He glanced around the table, “How was dinner with Darth Eovras?”
She paused a moment, unfamiliar with hearing that name off Ellbert’s lips, but she answered nonetheless, “It was great, really. I wish it could stay like this.” She smiled at Bert, folding her hands behind her.
“What makes you say it won’t stay like this? I’m sure he would visit whenever you like if only you ask,” He took a step forward, closing the distance between them and sliding his hands across her hips as he did so.
Keliso instinctively moved back and bumped into the table, her hands grasping its edges as Bert got closer, “Bert!” His face drew close to her, but hesitated as she spoke up. They stood there for several moments staring at one another, Keli’s gaze drifting to his lips, “I...”
Before she said anything more, or even considered what she might say, Bert’s lips brushed against hers. She grew still, then sunk into the kiss. She closed her eyes as her hand reached up for his face. Bert’s hands ran along her back and with his weight he gently pressed her against the table. Her thumb ran along the scarred part of his face, and she abruptly pulled away.
“No. I can’t-. You can’t. You can’t love me.”
His eyes looked confused, then hurt, “What do you mean Keli? I do love you.”
Her hand covered her mouth as he moved his hands to her shoulders. “You...love-” she shook her head quite suddenly, “No, Bert couldn’t. He wouldn’t ever love me.” As much as she wanted to hear those words from his lips, she knew it felt wrong in her heart.
“Keli, dear, you’re not making any sense,” He frowned, his tone sounding concerned.
“No, you’re the one not making any sense!” She pushed Bert away with more force than expected; he stumbled back a step, shocked, “He would never look at me the way you are! Or hold me the way you-” tears were rolling down her face now, but she couldn’t hold back now, “Eovras wasn’t real either was he?” Her voice became accusing of Bert, as though this was all his doing.
“He’s a Sith lord, ‘Bert’, I’m his sworn enemy- he wants nothing but my death after what I did to him! And its like Marrett is a whole different person now! She’d never listen to what Vette told her! None of them would be happy to see me.
And you...” She pointed at Ellbert, a sob breaking her sentence midway, “You would never turn your back on the Jedi teachings to love someone- and even if you did, I don’t think you would ever choose me.”
Keli moved to the door, turning her back on him.
“Keli, don’t leave!”
She looked back over her shoulder.
“We can have everything you ever wanted. Just stay with me.”
Keliso gave him a long hard look, before wiping some of the tears from her eyes and walking out. The look on his face burned into the back of her mind.
~~~
She opened her eyes and she was back in the temple. Keliso glanced around, wiping the tears on her sleeve again. Within a few moments, a door beside the statue slowly began to open. She took a deep breath before standing and walking through the door.
