Combing through past memories can be delightful. Seeing how far you've come and much you've grown is incredible. Even the smaller changes, like your vocabulary. My fiancé and I went searching for a status update he made on Facebook almost 9 years ago (long before I met him) and I was confronted with much of his past, specifically speaking, his past relationship, a seemingly serious one. Without getting into details.....eeeh who am I kidding? I live for details! Well, my fiancé, the love of my life, was previously engaged. I have known this since maybe....our 6 month anniversary. This, of course, was not information he offered, it was through my interest in his life before me that I came across some Tumblr (yes, Tumblr archives often snitches) posts in which he used the word "fiancée." Initially, when I asked him about being engaged, he said that it (the engagement, not the relationship) wasn't really serious, I gave hella side-eye. But I didn't beckon the issue any further as it was not really an issue at all. Again, he had a life before me and how can I be upset? Well, I was anyway. I may have been a tad bit petty. But today, while looking for that status update from 9 years ago, I saw many more posts about the fiancée and using that word. There many family members and friends congratulating the two on their engagement. Now I'm thinking, this seemed pretty serious. His cousin, my Soror, even offered to sing at their wedding! I'm not mad, again, I can't be, right? Had this been two or three years ago I may be mad. Heck, let me be honest, had this been a month ago (any day before May 14, 2016 at approx. 12 noon) I may have been mad. But! Alas, sometime after noon on May 14, 2016, he proposed to me. And! Whether or not his past engagement was serious or not....I no longer care. All I care about is walking down the aisle and saying "I do" to him on our wedding day. Because "I do" over and over again. I think that I have grown, and confronting his past is aiding in that growth and developing our relationship in intangible ways. Now, am I ready to confront my own past? Is he? Well that stands to be seen.
