I wrote this a while back for a friend when she was sick and I stumbled across it today in my notes and thought I’d share! Enjoy!

You check the weather for the day and groan. It’s supposed to be a beautiful day; warm but still snowy. You could have worn your new sweater and gotten some Christmas shopping done, but no, you’re sick in bed. Cough after cough wracks your aching body, and you’re almost out of tissues and completely out of cough drops.
"I’m back!" You sigh in relief as your husband leans inside the doorframe to your bedroom and tosses you the correct "sick-day" necessities. "And I brought soup. Are you hungry."
"I’m not sure I’ll be able to hold it down." You say, just before blowing your nose.
"You need to eat." Is all Sam says before heading to the kitchen. About ten minutes later he comes back desperately trying to balance a tray with a bowl of chicken noodle soup and some crackers on it, along with a cup if some sort of steaming green liquid.
"What’s that?" You say, motioning to the cup and situating yourself to eat.
"Tea. The woman at the store said that it might help." Sam turns to the shelf full of movies, trying to pick one for you to watch together.
You take one sip of the drink and struggle to swallow the bitter liquid. “Are you sure this is safe to drink?”
"Yeah? All I did was boil the water and put the tea bag in."
"No honey?" You ask, remembering a friend of yours saying that tea isn’t any good without honey. Sam stands up and turns to you.
"I knew I forgot something! Hang on!" You giggle as he rushes out of the room with your tea, returning a few moments later with something a little more appetizing.
Sam climbs in bed next to you while you eat and puts on Frankenweenie, your favorite movie, and stretches out on the bed next to you. When you finish eating all you can force down, about half of the bowl of soup, you place the tray on the floor next to you and scoot closer to Sam. He immediately places his arm around you and you find the little spot on his shoulder that seems like it was made especially for you.
Halfway through the movie you’re almost asleep, but a loud grunt from Sam wakes you up.
"Chevy! Quiet! Your momma’s asleep!" Sam whispers to the huge German shepherd bounding across the bed.
"He’s only looking for a good spot to cuddle up in." You speak up for your dog and pull him towards you as he snuggles into opposite side of your body. Sam leans across you and gives him an affectionate rub on his head, then presses the back of his hand to your forehead.
"Are you feeling any better? You’re still pretty warm."
"No." You blurt out. "But I’m glad you’re here."
"Well someone had to take care of you." He runs a hand through your hair.
"I have Chevy!" The dog lets out a small groan and Sam chuckles.
"Sounds like he’s getting tired of you!" Sam jokes.
"What about you? Are you getting tired of me too?" The mood turns serious and Sam looks straight at you so intensely that you feel like he’s looking straight into your soul.
"Never." He leans closer to you, eyes now locked on your lips.
"Don’t. You’ll get sick." You murmur even though you so desperately want him to.
"I don’t care." His words come out as a whisper just before he claims your lips as his own.
Your hands make your way around his neck as you try to bring him as close to you as you can. He shifts himself so that he’s holding himself just above you, and you move your hands to the bottom hem of his shirt. Just as you’re about to pull it over his head, you feel something bubble up in your chest. You shove Sam off of you and turn your head to the side as you’re overcome with a coughing fit.
"I’m so-" cough, "sorry." When you turn back to Sam, he’s shirtless and pouting on the bed. "Sorry."
"Hey, come here. I’m kidding." Sam pulls you into his lap and pulls your small frame against his. "You’re still as beautiful as ever, Shania. Even when you’re sick."
